Questioner
I saw Mary Tyler Moore the other day talk about stem-cell research. Mary Tyler
Moore went to the Senate and asked about stem-cell research. And, I want to know
what you think of it?
John MacArthur's Answer
You want to know what I think of cloning and stem-cell research? Well, I’ll tell
you in very simple terms. I’m against that because what you have to do in that
whole process, is create life, and then, destroy it. It’s essentially an
external fertilization of an egg to create a life and then destroy it for the
genetic material. So, if we believe that a fertilized egg constitutes life,
we’ve got life. We’re destroying life. This is, essentially, the same argument
that we’ve made against abortion. We do not have the right to kill. We do not
have the right to take life. And, that is exactly what that’s all about. That’s
why the President came out against all of that because he understands that. You
can’t go into a lab and create life for the purpose of destroying it, for the
purpose of saving someone’s life. This is convoluted. There is available human
material from people already. You can draw DNA a lot of ways out of living human
beings, and if we want to do that kind of research, we have ample supply of
what’s necessary to do that without creating life to kill it. So, we take the
position, many, of course, all those who are Biblical, take the position that
that’s wrong. That’s against God.
