DARKNESS

GEN 1:2  Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the 
surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters.

5  God called the light "day," and the darkness he called "night." And 
there was evening, and there was morning--the first day.

EXO 10:21  Then the LORD said to Moses, "Stretch out your hand toward the 
sky so that darkness will spread over Egypt--darkness that can be felt."

22  So Moses stretched out his hand toward the sky, and total darkness 
covered all Egypt for three days.

19:16  On the morning of the third day there was thunder and lightning, 
with a thick cloud over the mountain, and a very loud trumpet blast. 
Everyone in the camp trembled.

20:21  The people remained at a distance, while Moses approached the thick 
darkness where God was.

2SA 22:10  He parted the heavens and came down; dark clouds were under his 
feet.

11  He mounted the cherubim and flew; he soared on the wings of the wind.

12  He made darkness his canopy around him--the dark rain clouds of the 
sky.

2CH 6:1  Then Solomon said, "The LORD has said that he would dwell in a 
dark cloud;

JOB 38:9  when I made the clouds its garment and wrapped it in thick 
darkness,

PSA 18:11  He made darkness his covering, his canopy around him--the dark 
rain clouds of the sky.

97:2  Clouds and thick darkness surround him; righteousness and justice are 
the foundation of his throne.

105:28  He sent darkness and made the land dark--for had they not rebelled 
against his words?

PRO 20:20  If a man curses his father or mother, his lamp will be snuffed 
out in pitch darkness.

ISA 8:22  Then they will look toward the earth and see only distress and 
darkness and fearful gloom, and they will be thrust into utter darkness.

9:2  The people walking in darkness have seen a great light; on those 
living in the land of the shadow of death a light has dawned.

13:10  The stars of heaven and their constellations will not show their 
light. The rising sun will be darkened and the moon will not give its 
light.

42:16  I will lead the blind by ways they have not known, along unfamiliar 
paths I will guide them; I will turn the darkness into light before them 
and make the rough places smooth. These are the things I will do; I will 
not forsake them.

45:7  I form the light and create darkness, I bring prosperity and create 
disaster; I, the LORD, do all these things.

50:10  Who among you fears the LORD and obeys the word of his servant? Let 
him who walks in the dark, who has no light, trust in the name of the LORD 
and rely on his God.

JER 4:23  I looked at the earth, and it was formless and empty; and at the 
heavens, and their light was gone.

28  Therefore the earth will mourn and the heavens above grow dark, because 
I have spoken and will not relent, I have decided and will not turn back."

13:16  Give glory to the LORD your God before he brings the darkness, 
before your feet stumble on the darkening hills. You hope for light, but he 
will turn it to thick darkness and change it to deep gloom.

LAM 3:2  He has driven me away and made me walk in darkness rather than 
light;

EZE 32:7  When I snuff you out, I will cover the heavens and darken their 
stars; I will cover the sun with a cloud, and the moon will not give its 
light.

8  All the shining lights in the heavens I will darken over you; I will 
bring darkness over your land, declares the Sovereign LORD.

JOE 2:2  a day of darkness and gloom, a day of clouds and blackness. Like 
dawn spreading across the mountains a large and mighty army comes, such as 
never was of old nor ever will be in ages to come.

10  Before them the earth shakes, the sky trembles, the sun and moon are 
darkened, and the stars no longer shine.

AMO 4:13  He who forms the mountains, creates the wind, and reveals his 
thoughts to man, he who turns dawn to darkness, and treads the high places 
of the earth--the LORD God Almighty is his name.

5:18  Woe to you who long for the day of the LORD! Why do you long for the 
day of the LORD? That day will be darkness, not light.

20  Will not the day of the LORD be darkness, not light-- pitch-dark, 
without a ray of brightness?

8:9  "In that day," declares the Sovereign LORD, "I will make the sun go 
down at noon and darken the earth in broad daylight.

MIC 7:8  Do not gloat over me, my enemy! Though I have fallen, I will rise. 
Though I sit in darkness, the LORD will be my light.

MAT 4:16  the people living in darkness have seen a great light; on those 
living in the land of the shadow of death a light has dawned."

6:22  "The eye is the lamp of the body. If your eyes are good, your whole 
body will be full of light.

23  But if your eyes are bad, your whole body will be full of darkness. If 
then the light within you is darkness, how great is that darkness!

24:29  "Immediately after the distress of those days "'the sun will be 
darkened, and the moon will not give its light; the stars will fall from 
the sky, and the heavenly bodies will be shaken.'

27:45  From the sixth hour until the ninth hour darkness came over all the 
land.

MAR 13:24  "But in those days, following that distress, "'the sun will be 
darkened, and the moon will not give its light;

15:33  At the sixth hour darkness came over the whole land until the ninth 
hour.

LUK 1:79  to shine on those living in darkness and in the shadow of death, 
to guide our feet into the path of peace."

11:34  Your eye is the lamp of your body. When your eyes are good, your 
whole body also is full of light. But when they are bad, your body also is 
full of darkness.

22:53  Every day I was with you in the temple courts, and you did not lay a 
hand on me. But this is your hour--when darkness reigns."

23:45  for the sun stopped shining. And the curtain of the temple was torn 
in two.

JOH 1:5  The light shines in the darkness, but the darkness has not 
understood it.

3:19  This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but men loved 
darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil.

20  Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the 
light for fear that his deeds will be exposed.

21  But whoever lives by the truth comes into the light, so that it may be 
seen plainly that what he has done has been done through God."

8:12  When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, "I am the light of the 
world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the 
light of life."

11:9  Jesus answered, "Are there not twelve hours of daylight? A man who 
walks by day will not stumble, for he sees by this world's light.

ACT 26:18  to open their eyes and turn them from darkness to light, and 
from the power of Satan to God, so that they may receive forgiveness of 
sins and a place among those who are sanctified by faith in me.'

ROM 1:21  For although they knew God, they neither glorified him as God nor 
gave thanks to him, but their thinking became futile and their foolish 
hearts were darkened.

13:12  The night is nearly over; the day is almost here. So let us put 
aside the deeds of darkness and put on the armor of light.

13  Let us behave decently, as in the daytime, not in orgies and 
drunkenness, not in sexual immorality and debauchery, not in dissension and 
jealousy.

1CO 4:5  Therefore judge nothing before the appointed time; wait till the 
Lord comes. He will bring to light what is hidden in darkness and will 
expose the motives of men's hearts. At that time each will receive his 
praise from God.

2CO 4:6  For God, who said, "Let light shine out of darkness," made his 
light shine in our hearts to give us the light of the knowledge of the 
glory of God in the face of Christ.

6:14  Do not be yoked together with unbelievers. For what do righteousness 
and wickedness have in common? Or what fellowship can light have with 
darkness?

EPH 5:8  For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. 
Live as children of light

6:12  For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the 
rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and 
against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.

COL 1:13  For he has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought 
us into the kingdom of the Son he loves,

1TH 5:4  But you, brothers, are not in darkness so that this day should 
surprise you like a thief.

5  You are all sons of the light and sons of the day. We do not belong to 
the night or to the darkness.

HEB 12:18  You have not come to a mountain that can be touched and that is 
burning with fire; to darkness, gloom and storm;

1PE 2:9  But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a 
people belonging to God, that you may declare the praises of him who called 
you out of darkness into his wonderful light.

1JO 1:5  This is the message we have heard from him and declare to you: God 
is light; in him there is no darkness at all.

6  If we claim to have fellowship with him yet walk in the darkness, we lie 
and do not live by the truth.

7  But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship 
with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all 
sin.

2:8  Yet I am writing you a new command; its truth is seen in him and you, 
because the darkness is passing and the true light is already shining.

9  Anyone who claims to be in the light but hates his brother is still in 
the darkness.

10  Whoever loves his brother lives in the light, and there is nothing in 
him to make him stumble.

11  But whoever hates his brother is in the darkness and walks around in 
the darkness; he does not know where he is going, because the darkness has 
blinded him.

REV 8:12  The fourth angel sounded his trumpet, and a third of the sun was 
struck, a third of the moon, and a third of the stars, so that a third of 
them turned dark. A third of the day was without light, and also a third of 
the night.

9:2  When he opened the Abyss, smoke rose from it like the smoke from a 
gigantic furnace. The sun and sky were darkened by the smoke from the 
Abyss.

16:10  The fifth angel poured out his bowl on the throne of the beast, and 
his kingdom was plunged into darkness. Men gnawed their tongues in agony
