GEN 6:5  The LORD saw how great man's wickedness on the earth had become, 
and that every inclination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil all 
the time.

6  The LORD was grieved that he had made man on the earth, and his heart 
was filled with pain.

7  So the LORD said, "I will wipe mankind, whom I have created, from the 
face of the earth--men and animals, and creatures that move along the 
ground, and birds of the air--for I am grieved that I have made them."

8  But Noah found favor in the eyes of the LORD.

11  Now the earth was corrupt in God's sight and was full of violence.

12  God saw how corrupt the earth had become, for all the people on earth 
had corrupted their ways.

13  So God said to Noah, "I am going to put an end to all people, for the 
earth is filled with violence because of them. I am surely going to destroy 
both them and the earth.

8:21  The LORD smelled the pleasing aroma and said in his heart: "Never 
again will I curse the ground because of man, even though every inclination 
of his heart is evil from childhood. And never again will I destroy all 
living creatures, as I have done.

DEU 32:10  In a desert land he found him, in a barren and howling waste. He 
shielded him and cared for him; he guarded him as the apple of his eye,

JOB 4:17  'Can a mortal be more righteous than God? Can a man be more pure 
than his Maker?

18  If God places no trust in his servants, if he charges his angels with 
error,

19  how much more those who live in houses of clay, whose foundations are 
in the dust, who are crushed more readily than a moth!

9:2  "Indeed, I know that this is true. But how can a mortal be righteous 
before God?

3  Though one wished to dispute with him, he could not answer him one time 
out of a thousand.

20  Even if I were innocent, my mouth would condemn me; if I were 
blameless, it would pronounce me guilty.

29  Since I am already found guilty, why should I struggle in vain?

30  Even if I washed myself with soap and my hands with washing soda,

31  you would plunge me into a slime pit so that even my clothes would 
detest me.

11:12  But a witless man can no more become wise than a wild donkey's colt 
can be born a man.

14:4  Who can bring what is pure from the impure? No one!

15:14  "What is man, that he could be pure, or one born of woman, that he 
could be righteous?

15  If God places no trust in his holy ones, if even the heavens are not 
pure in his eyes,

16  how much less man, who is vile and corrupt, who drinks up evil like 
water!

25:4  How then can a man be righteous before God? How can one born of woman 
be pure?

5  If even the moon is not bright and the stars are not pure in his eyes,

6  how much less man, who is but a maggot--a son of man, who is only a 
worm!"

PSA 5:9  Not a word from their mouth can be trusted; their heart is filled 
with destruction. Their throat is an open grave; with their tongue they 
speak deceit.

14:1  The fool says in his heart, "There is no God." They are corrupt, 
their deeds are vile; there is no one who does good.

2  The LORD looks down from heaven on the sons of men to see if there are 
any who understand, any who seek God.

3  All have turned aside, they have together become corrupt; there is no 
one who does good, not even one.

51:5  Surely I was sinful at birth, sinful from the time my mother 
conceived me.

53:1  The fool says in his heart, "There is no God." They are corrupt, and 
their ways are vile; there is no one who does good.

2  God looks down from heaven on the sons of men to see if there are any 
who understand, any who seek God.

3  Everyone has turned away, they have together become corrupt; there is no 
one who does good, not even one.

58:1  Do you rulers indeed speak justly? Do you judge uprightly among men?

2  No, in your heart you devise injustice, and your hands mete out violence 
on the earth.

3  Even from birth the wicked go astray; from the womb they are wayward and 
speak lies.

4  Their venom is like the venom of a snake, like that of a cobra that has 
stopped its ears,

5  that will not heed the tune of the charmer, however skillful the 
enchanter may be.

94:11  The LORD knows the thoughts of man; he knows that they are futile.

130:3  If you, O LORD, kept a record of sins, O Lord, who could stand?

143:2  Do not bring your servant into judgment, for no one living is 
righteous before you.

PRO 10:20  The tongue of the righteous is choice silver, but the heart of 
the wicked is of little value.

20:6  Many a man claims to have unfailing love, but a faithful man who can 
find?

9  Who can say, "I have kept my heart pure; I am clean and without sin"?

21:8  The way of the guilty is devious, but the conduct of the innocent is 
upright.

ECC 7:20  There is not a righteous man on earth who does what is right and 
never sins.

8:11  When the sentence for a crime is not quickly carried out, the hearts 
of the people are filled with schemes to do wrong.

9:3  This is the evil in everything that happens under the sun: The same 
destiny overtakes all. The hearts of men, moreover, are full of evil and 
there is madness in their hearts while they live, and afterward they join 
the dead.

ISA 1:5  Why should you be beaten anymore? Why do you persist in rebellion? 
Your whole head is injured, your whole heart afflicted.

6  From the sole of your foot to the top of your head there is no 
soundness-- only wounds and welts and open sores, not cleansed or bandaged 
or soothed with oil.

42:6  "I, the LORD, have called you in righteousness; I will take hold of 
your hand. I will keep you and will make you to be a covenant for the 
people and a light for the Gentiles,

7  to open eyes that are blind, to free captives from prison and to release 
from the dungeon those who sit in darkness.

43:8  Lead out those who have eyes but are blind, who have ears but are 
deaf.

48:8  You have neither heard nor understood; from of old your ear has not 
been open. Well do I know how treacherous you are; you were called a rebel 
from birth.

51:1  "Listen to me, you who pursue righteousness and who seek the LORD: 
Look to the rock from which you were cut and to the quarry from which you 
were hewn;

53:6  We all, like sheep, have gone astray, each of us has turned to his 
own way; and the LORD has laid on him the iniquity of us all.

64:6  All of us have become like one who is unclean, and all our righteous 
acts are like filthy rags; we all shrivel up like a leaf, and like the wind 
our sins sweep us away.

JER 2:22  Although you wash yourself with soda and use an abundance of 
soap, the stain of your guilt is still before me," declares the Sovereign 
LORD.

29  "Why do you bring charges against me? You have all rebelled against 
me," declares the LORD.

6:7  As a well pours out its water, so she pours out her wickedness. 
Violence and destruction resound in her; her sickness and wounds are ever 
before me.

13:23  Can the Ethiopian change his skin or the leopard its spots? Neither 
can you do good who are accustomed to doing evil.

16:12  But you have behaved more wickedly than your fathers. See how each 
of you is following the stubbornness of his evil heart instead of obeying 
me.

17:9  The heart is deceitful above all things and beyond cure. Who can 
understand it?

EZE 16:6  "'Then I passed by and saw you kicking about in your blood, and 
as you lay there in your blood I said to you, "Live!"

36:25  I will sprinkle clean water on you, and you will be clean; I will 
cleanse you from all your impurities and from all your idols.

26  I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove 
from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh.

37:1  The hand of the LORD was upon me, and he brought me out by the Spirit 
of the LORD and set me in the middle of a valley; it was full of bones.

2  He led me back and forth among them, and I saw a great many bones on the 
floor of the valley, bones that were very dry.

3  He asked me, "Son of man, can these bones live?" I said, "O Sovereign 
LORD, you alone know."

HOS 6:7  Like Adam, they have broken the covenant--they were unfaithful to 
me there.

14:9  Who is wise? He will realize these things. Who is discerning? He will 
understand them. The ways of the LORD are right; the righteous walk in 
them, but the rebellious stumble in them.

MIC 7:2  The godly have been swept from the land; not one upright man 
remains. All men lie in wait to shed blood; each hunts his brother with a 
net.

3  Both hands are skilled in doing evil; the ruler demands gifts, the judge 
accepts bribes, the powerful dictate what they desire--they all conspire 
together.

4  The best of them is like a brier, the most upright worse than a thorn 
hedge. The day of your watchmen has come, the day God visits you. Now is 
the time of their confusion.

MAT 7:17  Likewise every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears 
bad fruit.

12:34  You brood of vipers, how can you who are evil say anything good? For 
out of the overflow of the heart the mouth speaks.

35  The good man brings good things out of the good stored up in him, and 
the evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in him.

15:19  For out of the heart come evil thoughts, murder, adultery, sexual 
immorality, theft, false testimony, slander.

MAR 7:21  For from within, out of men's hearts, come evil thoughts, sexual 
immorality, theft, murder, adultery,

22  greed, malice, deceit, lewdness, envy, slander, arrogance and folly.

23  All these evils come from inside and make a man 'unclean.'"

LUK 1:79  to shine on those living in darkness and in the shadow of death, 
to guide our feet into the path of peace."

JOH 1:10  He was in the world, and though the world was made through him, 
the world did not recognize him.

11  He came to that which was his own, but his own did not receive him.

3:19  This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but men loved 
darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil.

8:23  But he continued, "You are from below; I am from above. You are of 
this world; I am not of this world.

14:17  the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither 
sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be 
in you.

ACT 8:23  For I see that you are full of bitterness and captive to sin."

ROM 2:1  You, therefore, have no excuse, you who pass judgment on someone 
else, for at whatever point you judge the other, you are condemning 
yourself, because you who pass judgment do the same things.

3:9  What shall we conclude then? Are we any better? Not at all! We have 
already made the charge that Jews and Gentiles alike are all under sin.

10  As it is written: "There is no one righteous, not even one;

11  there is no one who understands, no one who seeks God.

12  All have turned away, they have together become worthless; there is no 
one who does good, not even one."

13  "Their throats are open graves; their tongues practice deceit." "The 
poison of vipers is on their lips."

14  "Their mouths are full of cursing and bitterness."

15  "Their feet are swift to shed blood;

16  ruin and misery mark their ways,

17  and the way of peace they do not know."

18  "There is no fear of God before their eyes."

19  Now we know that whatever the law says, it says to those who are under 
the law, so that every mouth may be silenced and the whole world held 
accountable to God.

23  for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,

5:6  You see, at just the right time, when we were still powerless, Christ 
died for the ungodly.

12  Therefore, just as sin entered the world through one man, and death 
through sin, and in this way death came to all men, because all sinned--

13  for before the law was given, sin was in the world. But sin is not 
taken into account when there is no law.

14  Nevertheless, death reigned from the time of Adam to the time of Moses, 
even over those who did not sin by breaking a command, as did Adam, who was 
a pattern of the one to come.

6:6  For we know that our old self was crucified with him so that the body 
of sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves to sin--

19  I put this in human terms because you are weak in your natural selves. 
Just as you used to offer the parts of your body in slavery to impurity and 
to ever-increasing wickedness, so now offer them in slavery to 
righteousness leading to holiness.

20  When you were slaves to sin, you were free from the control of 
righteousness.

7:5  For when we were controlled by the sinful nature, the sinful passions 
aroused by the law were at work in our bodies, so that we bore fruit for 
death.

11  For sin, seizing the opportunity afforded by the commandment, deceived 
me, and through the commandment put me to death.

13  Did that which is good, then, become death to me? By no means! But in 
order that sin might be recognized as sin, it produced death in me through 
what was good, so that through the commandment sin might become utterly 
sinful.

14  We know that the law is spiritual; but I am unspiritual, sold as a 
slave to sin.

15  I do not understand what I do. For what I want to do I do not do, but 
what I hate I do.

18  I know that nothing good lives in me, that is, in my sinful nature. For 
I have the desire to do what is good, but I cannot carry it out.

19  For what I do is not the good I want to do; no, the evil I do not want 
to do--this I keep on doing.

20  Now if I do what I do not want to do, it is no longer I who do it, but 
it is sin living in me that does it.

21  So I find this law at work: When I want to do good, evil is right there 
with me.

23  but I see another law at work in the members of my body, waging war 
against the law of my mind and making me a prisoner of the law of sin at 
work within my members.

25  Thanks be to God--through Jesus Christ our Lord! So then, I myself in 
my mind am a slave to God's law, but in the sinful nature a slave to the 
law of sin.

8:5  Those who live according to the sinful nature have their minds set on 
what that nature desires; but those who live in accordance with the Spirit 
have their minds set on what the Spirit desires.

6  The mind of sinful man is death, but the mind controlled by the Spirit 
is life and peace;

7  the sinful mind is hostile to God. It does not submit to God's law, nor 
can it do so.

8  Those controlled by the sinful nature cannot please God.

13  For if you live according to the sinful nature, you will die; but if by 
the Spirit you put to death the misdeeds of the body, you will live,

11:32  For God has bound all men over to disobedience so that he may have 
mercy on them all.

1CO 2:14  The man without the Spirit does not accept the things that come 
from the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him, and he cannot 
understand them, because they are spiritually discerned.

3:3  You are still worldly. For since there is jealousy and quarreling 
among you, are you not worldly? Are you not acting like mere men?

5:9  I have written you in my letter not to associate with sexually immoral 
people--

2CO 3:4  Such confidence as this is ours through Christ before God.

5:14  For Christ's love compels us, because we are convinced that one died 
for all, and therefore all died.

GAL 3:10  All who rely on observing the law are under a curse, for it is 
written: "Cursed is everyone who does not continue to do everything written 
in the Book of the Law."

11  Clearly no one is justified before God by the law, because, "The 
righteous will live by faith."

22  But the Scripture declares that the whole world is a prisoner of sin, 
so that what was promised, being given through faith in Jesus Christ, might 
be given to those who believe.

5:17  For the sinful nature desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the 
Spirit what is contrary to the sinful nature. They are in conflict with 
each other, so that you do not do what you want.

19  The acts of the sinful nature are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity 
and debauchery;

20  idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, 
selfish ambition, dissensions, factions

21  and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did 
before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God.

EPH 2:1  As for you, you were dead in your transgressions and sins,

2  in which you used to live when you followed the ways of this world and 
of the ruler of the kingdom of the air, the spirit who is now at work in 
those who are disobedient.

3  All of us also lived among them at one time, gratifying the cravings of 
our sinful nature and following its desires and thoughts. Like the rest, we 
were by nature objects of wrath.

12  remember that at that time you were separate from Christ, excluded from 
citizenship in Israel and foreigners to the covenants of the promise, 
without hope and without God in the world.

4:17  So I tell you this, and insist on it in the Lord, that you must no 
longer live as the Gentiles do, in the futility of their thinking.

18  They are darkened in their understanding and separated from the life of 
God because of the ignorance that is in them due to the hardening of their 
hearts.

19  Having lost all sensitivity, they have given themselves over to 
sensuality so as to indulge in every kind of impurity, with a continual 
lust for more.

22  You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off 
your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires;

5:8  For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Live as 
children of light

14  for it is light that makes everything visible. This is why it is said: 
"Wake up, O sleeper, rise from the dead, and Christ will shine on you."

COL 1:13  For he has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought 
us into the kingdom of the Son he loves,

21  Once you were alienated from God and were enemies in your minds because 
of your evil behavior.

2:13  When you were dead in your sins and in the uncircumcision of your 
sinful nature, God made you alive with Christ. He forgave us all our sins,

3:5  Put to death, therefore, whatever belongs to your earthly nature: 
sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desires and greed, which is 
idolatry.

7  You used to walk in these ways, in the life you once lived.

2TI 2:26  and that they will come to their senses and escape from the trap 
of the devil, who has taken them captive to do his will.

TIT 3:3  At one time we too were foolish, disobedient, deceived and 
enslaved by all kinds of passions and pleasures. We lived in malice and 
envy, being hated and hating one another.

JAM 3:2  We all stumble in many ways. If anyone is never at fault in what 
he says, he is a perfect man, able to keep his whole body in check.

4:5  Or do you think Scripture says without reason that the spirit he 
caused to live in us envies intensely?

1PE 1:18  For you know that it was not with perishable things such as 
silver or gold that you were redeemed from the empty way of life handed 
down to you from your forefathers,

2:9  But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a 
people belonging to God, that you may declare the praises of him who called 
you out of darkness into his wonderful light.

1JO 1:8  If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth 
is not in us.

2:16  For everything in the world--the cravings of sinful man, the lust of 
his eyes and the boasting of what he has and does--comes not from the 
Father but from the world.

3:10  This is how we know who the children of God are and who the children 
of the devil are: Anyone who does not do what is right is not a child of 
God; nor is anyone who does not love his brother.

5:19  We know that we are children of God, and that the whole world is 
under the control of the evil one.

REV 3:17  You say, 'I am rich; I have acquired wealth and do not need a 
thing.' But you do not realize that you are wretched, pitiful, poor, blind 
and naked.
