HEART Taken from the HOLY BIBLE: NEW INTERNATIONAL VERSION (C) 1978 by the New York Bible Society, used by permission of Zondervan Bible Publishers. GEN 6:5 The LORD saw how great man's wickedness on the earth had become, and that every inclination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil all the time. 8:21 The LORD smelled the pleasing aroma and said in his heart: "Never again will I curse the ground because of man, even though every inclination of his heart is evil from childhood. And never again will I destroy all living creatures, as I have done. EXO 4:21 The LORD said to Moses, "When you return to Egypt, see that you perform before Pharaoh all the wonders I have given you the power to do. But I will harden his heart so that he will not let the people go. 7:3 But I will harden Pharaoh's heart, and though I multiply my miraculous signs and wonders in Egypt, 13 Yet Pharaoh's heart became hard and he would not listen to them, just as the LORD had said. 22 But the Egyptian magicians did the same things by their secret arts, and Pharaoh's heart became hard; he would not listen to Moses and Aaron, just as the LORD had said. 8:15 But when Pharaoh saw that there was relief, he hardened his heart and would not listen to Moses and Aaron, just as the LORD had said. 32 But this time also Pharaoh hardened his heart and would not let the people go. 9:12 But the LORD hardened Pharaoh's heart and he would not listen to Moses and Aaron, just as the LORD had said to Moses. 34 When Pharaoh saw that the rain and hail and thunder had stopped, he sinned again: He and his officials hardened their hearts. 35 So Pharaoh's heart was hard and he would not let the Israelites go, just as the LORD had said through Moses. 10:1 Then the LORD said to Moses, "Go to Pharaoh, for I have hardened his heart and the hearts of his officials so that I may perform these miraculous signs of mine among them 20 But the LORD hardened Pharaoh's heart, and he would not let the Israelites go. 27 But the LORD hardened Pharaoh's heart, and he was not willing to let them go. 11:9 The LORD had said to Moses, "Pharaoh will refuse to listen to you--so that my wonders may be multiplied in Egypt." 10 Moses and Aaron performed all these wonders before Pharaoh, but the LORD hardened Pharaoh's heart, and he would not let the Israelites go out of his country. 14:4 And I will harden Pharaoh's heart, and he will pursue them. But I will gain glory for myself through Pharaoh and all his army, and the Egyptians will know that I am the LORD." So the Israelites did this. 8 The LORD hardened the heart of Pharaoh king of Egypt, so that he pursued the Israelites, who were marching out boldly. 17 I will harden the hearts of the Egyptians so that they will go in after them. And I will gain glory through Pharaoh and all his army, through his chariots and his horsemen. DEU 2:30 But Sihon king of Heshbon refused to let us pass through. For the LORD your God had made his spirit stubborn and his heart obstinate in order to give him into your hands, as he has now done. 5:29 Oh, that their hearts would be inclined to fear me and keep all my commands always, so that it might go well with them and their children forever! 6:5 Love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. 6 These commandments that I give you today are to be upon your hearts. 10:12 And now, O Israel, what does the LORD your God ask of you but to fear the LORD your God, to walk in all his ways, to love him, to serve the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul, 11:13 So if you faithfully obey the commands I am giving you today--to love the LORD your God and to serve him with all your heart and with all your soul-- 26:16 The LORD your God commands you this day to follow these decrees and laws; carefully observe them with all your heart and with all your soul. 29:18 Make sure there is no man or woman, clan or tribe among you today whose heart turns away from the LORD our God to go and worship the gods of those nations; make sure there is no root among you that produces such bitter poison. 30:2 and when you and your children return to the LORD your God and obey him with all your heart and with all your soul according to everything I command you today, 6 The LORD your God will circumcise your hearts and the hearts of your descendants, so that you may love him with all your heart and with all your soul, and live. 31:21 And when many disasters and difficulties come upon them, this song will testify against them, because it will not be forgotten by their descendants. I know what they are disposed to do, even before I bring them into the land I promised them on oath." JOS 11:20 For it was the LORD himself who hardened their hearts to wage war against Israel, so that he might destroy them totally, exterminating them without mercy, as the LORD had commanded Moses. 1SA 1:13 Hannah was praying in her heart, and her lips were moving but her voice was not heard. Eli thought she was drunk 2:1 Then Hannah prayed and said: "My heart rejoices in the LORD; in the LORD my horn is lifted high. My mouth boasts over my enemies, for I delight in your deliverance. 6:6 Why do you harden your hearts as the Egyptians and Pharaoh did? When he treated them harshly, did they not send the Israelites out so they could go on their way? 10:9 As Saul turned to leave Samuel, God changed Saul's heart, and all these signs were fulfilled that day. 26 Saul also went to his home in Gibeah, accompanied by valiant men whose hearts God had touched. 16:7 But the LORD said to Samuel, "Do not consider his appearance or his height, for I have rejected him. The LORD does not look at the things man looks at. Man looks at the outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart." 17:28 When Eliab, David's oldest brother, heard him speaking with the men, he burned with anger at him and asked, "Why have you come down here? And with whom did you leave those few sheep in the desert? I know how conceited you are and how wicked your heart is; you came down only to watch the battle." 24:5 Afterward, David was conscience-stricken for having cut off a corner of his robe. 2SA 7:20 "What more can David say to you? For you know your servant, O Sovereign LORD. 1KI 2:4 and that the LORD may keep his promise to me: 'If your descendants watch how they live, and if they walk faithfully before me with all their heart and soul, you will never fail to have a man on the throne of Israel.' 3:9 So give your servant a discerning heart to govern your people and to distinguish between right and wrong. For who is able to govern this great people of yours?" 11 So God said to him, "Since you have asked for this and not for long life or wealth for yourself, nor have asked for the death of your enemies but for discernment in administering justice, 12 I will do what you have asked. I will give you a wise and discerning heart, so that there will never have been anyone like you, nor will there ever be. 4:29 God gave Solomon wisdom and very great insight, and a breadth of understanding as measureless as the sand on the seashore. 8:39 then hear from heaven, your dwelling place. Forgive and act; deal with each man according to all he does, since you know his heart (for you alone know the hearts of all men), 61 But your hearts must be fully committed to the LORD our God, to live by his decrees and obey his commands, as at this time." 2KI 14:10 You have indeed defeated Edom and now you are arrogant. Glory in your victory, but stay at home! Why ask for trouble and cause your own downfall and that of Judah also?" 22:19 Because your heart was responsive and you humbled yourself before the LORD when you heard what I have spoken against this place and its people, that they would become accursed and laid waste, and because you tore your robes and wept in my presence, I have heard you, declares the LORD. 1CH 12:33 men of Zebulun, experienced soldiers prepared for battle with every type of weapon, to help David with undivided loyalty--50,000; 28:9 "And you, my son Solomon, acknowledge the God of your father, and serve him with wholehearted devotion and with a willing mind, for the LORD searches every heart and understands every motive behind the thoughts. If you seek him, he will be found by you; but if you forsake him, he will reject you forever. 29:17 I know, my God, that you test the heart and are pleased with integrity. All these things have I given willingly and with honest intent. And now I have seen with joy how willingly your people who are here have given to you. 18 O LORD, God of our fathers Abraham, Isaac and Israel, keep this desire in the hearts of your people forever, and keep their hearts loyal to you. 2CH 12:14 He did evil because he had not set his heart on seeking the LORD. 17:16 next, Amasiah son of Zicri, who volunteered himself for the service of the LORD, with 200,000. 19:3 There is, however, some good in you, for you have rid the land of the Asherah poles and have set your heart on seeking God." 25:19 You say to yourself that you have defeated Edom, and now you are arrogant and proud. But stay at home! Why ask for trouble and cause your own downfall and that of Judah also?" 26:16 But after Uzziah became powerful, his pride led to his downfall. He was unfaithful to the LORD his God, and entered the temple of the LORD to burn incense on the altar of incense. 30:19 who sets his heart on seeking God--the LORD, the God of his fathers- -even if he is not clean according to the rules of the sanctuary." EZR 6:22 For seven days they celebrated with joy the Feast of Unleavened Bread, because the LORD had filled them with joy by changing the attitude of the king of Assyria, so that he assisted them in the work on the house of God, the God of Israel. 7:10 For Ezra had devoted himself to the study and observance of the Law of the LORD, and to teaching its decrees and laws in Israel. 27 Praise be to the LORD, the God of our fathers, who has put it into the king's heart to bring honor to the house of the LORD in Jerusalem in this way NEH 9:8 You found his heart faithful to you, and you made a covenant with him to give to his descendants the land of the Canaanites, Hittites, Amorites, Perizzites, Jebusites and Girgashites. You have kept your promise because you are righteous. JOB 9:4 His wisdom is profound, his power is vast. Who has resisted him and come out unscathed? 11:11 Surely he recognizes deceitful men; and when he sees evil, does he not take note? 16:19 Even now my witness is in heaven; my advocate is on high. 23:16 God has made my heart faint; the Almighty has terrified me. 31:4 Does he not see my ways and count my every step? PSA 1:6 For the LORD watches over the way of the righteous, but the way of the wicked will perish. 4:4 In your anger do not sin; when you are on your beds, search your hearts and be silent. Selah 7 You have filled my heart with greater joy than when their grain and new wine abound. 7:9 O righteous God, who searches minds and hearts, bring to an end the violence of the wicked and make the righteous secure. 9:1 I will praise you, O LORD, with all my heart; I will tell of all your wonders. 10:17 You hear, O LORD, the desire of the afflicted; you encourage them, and you listen to their cry, 12:2 Everyone lies to his neighbor; their flattering lips speak with deception. 22:14 I am poured out like water, and all my bones are out of joint. My heart has turned to wax; it has melted away within me. 26 The poor will eat and be satisfied; they who seek the LORD will praise him--may your hearts live forever! 24:4 He who has clean hands and a pure heart, who does not lift up his soul to an idol or swear by what is false. 26:2 Test me, O LORD, and try me, examine my heart and my mind; 27:3 Though an army besiege me, my heart will not fear; though war break out against me, even then will I be confident. 8 My heart says of you, "Seek his face!" Your face, LORD, I will seek. 14 Wait for the LORD; be strong and take heart and wait for the LORD. 28:3 Do not drag me away with the wicked, with those who do evil, who speak cordially with their neighbors but harbor malice in their hearts. 34:18 The LORD is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit. 44:21 would not God have discovered it, since he knows the secrets of the heart? 51:10 Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me. 17 The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit; a broken and contrite heart, O God, you will not despise. 57:7 My heart is steadfast, O God, my heart is steadfast; I will sing and make music. 66:18 If I had cherished sin in my heart, the Lord would not have listened; 73:1 Surely God is good to Israel, to those who are pure in heart. 76:5 Valiant men lie plundered, they sleep their last sleep; not one of the warriors can lift his hands. 77:6 I remembered my songs in the night. My heart mused and my spirit inquired: 84:2 My soul yearns, even faints, for the courts of the LORD; my heart and my flesh cry out for the living God. 94:11 The LORD knows the thoughts of man; he knows that they are futile. 95:10 For forty years I was angry with that generation; I said, "They are a people whose hearts go astray, and they have not known my ways." 97:11 Light is shed upon the righteous and joy on the upright in heart. 101:2 I will be careful to lead a blameless life--when will you come to me? I will walk in my house with blameless heart. 4 Men of perverse heart shall be far from me; I will have nothing to do with evil. 5 Whoever slanders his neighbor in secret, him will I put to silence; whoever has haughty eyes and a proud heart, him will I not endure. 112:7 He will have no fear of bad news; his heart is steadfast, trusting in the LORD. 8 His heart is secure, he will have no fear; in the end he will look in triumph on his foes. 119:1 Blessed are they whose ways are blameless, who walk according to the law of the LORD. 10 I seek you with all my heart; do not let me stray from your commands. 12 Praise be to you, O LORD; teach me your decrees. 69 Though the arrogant have smeared me with lies, I keep your precepts with all my heart. 145 I call with all my heart; answer me, O LORD, and I will obey your decrees. 161 Rulers persecute me without cause, but my heart trembles at your word. 125:4 Do good, O LORD, to those who are good, to those who are upright in heart. 139:1 O LORD, you have searched me and you know me. 2 You know when I sit and when I rise; you perceive my thoughts from afar. 3 You discern my going out and my lying down; you are familiar with all my ways. 4 Before a word is on my tongue you know it completely, O LORD. 5 You hem me in--behind and before; you have laid your hand upon me. 6 Such knowledge is too wonderful for me, too lofty for me to attain. 7 Where can I go from your Spirit? Where can I flee from your presence? 8 If I go up to the heavens, you are there; if I make my bed in the depths, you are there. 9 If I rise on the wings of the dawn, if I settle on the far side of the sea, 10 even there your hand will guide me, your right hand will hold me fast. 11 If I say, "Surely the darkness will hide me and the light become night around me," 12 even the darkness will not be dark to you; the night will shine like the day, for darkness is as light to you. 140:2 who devise evil plans in their hearts and stir up war every day. PRO 3:5 Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; 4:23 Above all else, guard your heart, for it is the wellspring of life. 5:21 For a man's ways are in full view of the LORD, and he examines all his paths. 6:14 who plots evil with deceit in his heart--he always stirs up dissension. 18 a heart that devises wicked schemes, feet that are quick to rush into evil, 7:10 Then out came a woman to meet him, dressed like a prostitute and with crafty intent. 8:10 Choose my instruction instead of silver, knowledge rather than choice gold, 10:8 The wise in heart accept commands, but a chattering fool comes to ruin. 11:20 The LORD detests men of perverse heart but he delights in those whose ways are blameless. 29 He who brings trouble on his family will inherit only wind, and the fool will be servant to the wise. 12:8 A man is praised according to his wisdom, but men with warped minds are despised. 23 A prudent man keeps his knowledge to himself, but the heart of fools blurts out folly. 14:30 A heart at peace gives life to the body, but envy rots the bones. 33 Wisdom reposes in the heart of the discerning and even among fools she lets herself be known. 15:13 A happy heart makes the face cheerful, but heartache crushes the spirit. 14 The discerning heart seeks knowledge, but the mouth of a fool feeds on folly. 15 All the days of the oppressed are wretched, but the cheerful heart has a continual feast. 16:1 To man belong the plans of the heart, but from the LORD comes the reply of the tongue. 2 All a man's ways seem innocent to him, but motives are weighed by the LORD. 17:3 The crucible for silver and the furnace for gold, but the LORD tests the heart. 20 A man of perverse heart does not prosper; he whose tongue is deceitful falls into trouble. 18:12 Before his downfall a man's heart is proud, but humility comes before honor. 20:9 Who can say, "I have kept my heart pure; I am clean and without sin"? 21:1 The king's heart is in the hand of the LORD; he directs it like a watercourse wherever he pleases. 2 All a man's ways seem right to him, but the LORD weighs the heart. 22:11 He who loves a pure heart and whose speech is gracious will have the king for his friend. 15 Folly is bound up in the heart of a child, but the rod of discipline will drive it far from him. 23:15 My son, if your heart is wise, then my heart will be glad; 24:2 for their hearts plot violence, and their lips talk about making trouble. 28:14 Blessed is the man who always fears the LORD, but he who hardens his heart falls into trouble. 25 A greedy man stirs up dissension, but he who trusts in the LORD will prosper. ECC 7:26 I find more bitter than death the woman who is a snare, whose heart is a trap and whose hands are chains. The man who pleases God will escape her, but the sinner she will ensnare. 8:11 When the sentence for a crime is not quickly carried out, the hearts of the people are filled with schemes to do wrong. 9:3 This is the evil in everything that happens under the sun: The same destiny overtakes all. The hearts of men, moreover, are full of evil and there is madness in their hearts while they live, and afterward they join the dead. ISA 6:10 Make the heart of this people calloused; make their ears dull and close their eyes. Otherwise they might see with their eyes, hear with their ears, understand with their hearts, and turn and be healed." 9:9 All the people will know it-- Ephraim and the inhabitants of Samaria-- who say with pride and arrogance of heart, 10:12 When the Lord has finished all his work against Mount Zion and Jerusalem, he will say, "I will punish the king of Assyria for the willful pride of his heart and the haughty look in his eyes. 46:12 Listen to me, you stubborn-hearted, you who are far from righteousness. 65:14 My servants will sing out of the joy of their hearts, but you will cry out from anguish of heart and wail in brokenness of spirit. 66:18 "And I, because of their actions and their imaginations, am about to come and gather all nations and tongues, and they will come and see my glory. JER 4:14 O Jerusalem, wash the evil from your heart and be saved. How long will you harbor wicked thoughts? 18 "Your own conduct and actions have brought this upon you. This is your punishment. How bitter it is! How it pierces to the heart!" 19 Oh, my anguish, my anguish! I writhe in pain. Oh, the agony of my heart! My heart pounds within me, I cannot keep silent. For I have heard the sound of the trumpet; I have heard the battle cry. 5:23 But these people have stubborn and rebellious hearts; they have turned aside and gone away. 11:20 But, O LORD Almighty, you who judge righteously and test the heart and mind, let me see your vengeance upon them, for to you I have committed my cause. 12:3 Yet you know me, O LORD; you see me and test my thoughts about you. Drag them off like sheep to be butchered! Set them apart for the day of slaughter! 17:1 "Judah's sin is engraved with an iron tool, inscribed with a flint point, on the tablets of their hearts and on the horns of their altars. 5 This is what the LORD says: "Cursed is the one who trusts in man, who depends on flesh for his strength and whose heart turns away from the LORD. 9 The heart is deceitful above all things and beyond cure. Who can understand it? 10 "I the LORD search the heart and examine the mind, to reward a man according to his conduct, according to what his deeds deserve." 20:9 But if I say, "I will not mention him or speak any more in his name," his word is in my heart like a fire, a fire shut up in my bones. I am weary of holding it in; indeed, I cannot. 12 O LORD Almighty, you who examine the righteous and probe the heart and mind, let me see your vengeance upon them, for to you I have committed my cause. 22:17 "But your eyes and your heart are set only on dishonest gain, on shedding innocent blood and on oppression and extortion." 32:40 I will make an everlasting covenant with them: I will never stop doing good to them, and I will inspire them to fear me, so that they will never turn away from me. 48:29 "We have heard of Moab's pride--her overweening pride and conceit, her pride and arrogance and the haughtiness of her heart. 49:16 The terror you inspire and the pride of your heart have deceived you, you who live in the clefts of the rocks, who occupy the heights of the hill. Though you build your nest as high as the eagle's, from there I will bring you down," declares the LORD. LAM 3:51 What I see brings grief to my soul because of all the women of my city. EZE 2:4 The people to whom I am sending you are obstinate and stubborn. Say to them, 'This is what the Sovereign LORD says.' 3:7 But the house of Israel is not willing to listen to you because they are not willing to listen to me, for the whole house of Israel is hardened and obstinate. 6:9 Then in the nations where they have been carried captive, those who escape will remember me--how I have been grieved by their adulterous hearts, which have turned away from me, and by their eyes, which have lusted after their idols. They will loathe themselves for the evil they have done and for all their detestable practices. 11:5 Then the Spirit of the LORD came upon me, and he told me to say: "This is what the LORD says: That is what you are saying, O house of Israel, but I know what is going through your mind. 19 I will give them an undivided heart and put a new spirit in them; I will remove from them their heart of stone and give them a heart of flesh. 20 Then they will follow my decrees and be careful to keep my laws. They will be my people, and I will be their God. 21 But as for those whose hearts are devoted to their vile images and detestable idols, I will bring down on their own heads what they have done, declares the Sovereign LORD." 18:31 Rid yourselves of all the offenses you have committed, and get a new heart and a new spirit. Why will you die, O house of Israel? 25:15 "This is what the Sovereign LORD says: 'Because the Philistines acted in vengeance and took revenge with malice in their hearts, and with ancient hostility sought to destroy Judah, 36:26 I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh. DAN 5:20 But when his heart became arrogant and hardened with pride, he was deposed from his royal throne and stripped of his glory. HOS 10:2 Their heart is deceitful, and now they must bear their guilt. The LORD will demolish their altars and destroy their sacred stones. 13:6 When I fed them, they were satisfied; when they were satisfied, they became proud; then they forgot me. ZEC 10:7 The Ephraimites will become like mighty men, and their hearts will be glad as with wine. Their children will see it and be joyful; their hearts will rejoice in the LORD. MAT 5:8 Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God. 9:4 Knowing their thoughts, Jesus said, "Why do you entertain evil thoughts in your hearts? 11:29 Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 12:33 "Make a tree good and its fruit will be good, or make a tree bad and its fruit will be bad, for a tree is recognized by its fruit. 34 You brood of vipers, how can you who are evil say anything good? For out of the overflow of the heart the mouth speaks. 35 The good man brings good things out of the good stored up in him, and the evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in him. 15:18 But the things that come out of the mouth come from the heart, and these make a man 'unclean.' 19 For out of the heart come evil thoughts, murder, adultery, sexual immorality, theft, false testimony, slander. 20 These are what make a man 'unclean'; but eating with unwashed hands does not make him 'unclean.'" 22:37 Jesus replied: "'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.' 23:26 Blind Pharisee! First clean the inside of the cup and dish, and then the outside also will be clean. MAR 6:52 for they had not understood about the loaves; their hearts were hardened. 7:21 For from within, out of men's hearts, come evil thoughts, sexual immorality, theft, murder, adultery, 10:5 "It was because your hearts were hard that Moses wrote you this law," Jesus replied. 16:14 Later Jesus appeared to the Eleven as they were eating; he rebuked them for their lack of faith and their stubborn refusal to believe those who had seen him after he had risen. LUK 8:15 But the seed on good soil stands for those with a noble and good heart, who hear the word, retain it, and by persevering produce a crop. 16:15 He said to them, "You are the ones who justify yourselves in the eyes of men, but God knows your hearts. What is highly valued among men is detestable in God's sight. JOH 3:3 In reply Jesus declared, "I tell you the truth, no one can see the kingdom of God unless he is born again." 7 You should not be surprised at my saying, 'You must be born again.' 12:40 "He has blinded their eyes and deadened their hearts, so they can neither see with their eyes, nor understand with their hearts, nor turn-- and I would heal them." 13:2 The evening meal was being served, and the devil had already prompted Judas Iscariot, son of Simon, to betray Jesus. ACT 1:24 Then they prayed, "Lord, you know everyone's heart. Show us which of these two you have chosen 2:46 Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, 5:3 Then Peter said, "Ananias, how is it that Satan has so filled your heart that you have lied to the Holy Spirit and have kept for yourself some of the money you received for the land? 8:21 You have no part or share in this ministry, because your heart is not right before God. 22 Repent of this wickedness and pray to the Lord. Perhaps he will forgive you for having such a thought in your heart. 9:1 Meanwhile, Saul was still breathing out murderous threats against the Lord's disciples. He went to the high priest 2 and asked him for letters to the synagogues in Damascus, so that if he found any there who belonged to the Way, whether men or women, he might take them as prisoners to Jerusalem. 3 As he neared Damascus on his journey, suddenly a light from heaven flashed around him. 4 He fell to the ground and heard a voice say to him, "Saul, Saul, why do you persecute me?" 5 "Who are you, Lord?" Saul asked. "I am Jesus, whom you are persecuting," he replied. 6 "Now get up and go into the city, and you will be told what you must do." 7 The men traveling with Saul stood there speechless; they heard the sound but did not see anyone. 8 Saul got up from the ground, but when he opened his eyes he could see nothing. So they led him by the hand into Damascus. 9 For three days he was blind, and did not eat or drink anything. 10 In Damascus there was a disciple named Ananias. The Lord called to him in a vision, "Ananias!" "Yes, Lord," he answered. 11 The Lord told him, "Go to the house of Judas on Straight Street and ask for a man from Tarsus named Saul, for he is praying. 12 In a vision he has seen a man named Ananias come and place his hands on him to restore his sight." 13 "Lord," Ananias answered, "I have heard many reports about this man and all the harm he has done to your saints in Jerusalem. 14 And he has come here with authority from the chief priests to arrest all who call on your name." 15 But the Lord said to Ananias, "Go! This man is my chosen instrument to carry my name before the Gentiles and their kings and before the people of Israel. 16 I will show him how much he must suffer for my name." 17 Then Ananias went to the house and entered it. Placing his hands on Saul, he said, "Brother Saul, the Lord--Jesus, who appeared to you on the road as you were coming here--has sent me so that you may see again and be filled with the Holy Spirit." 18 Immediately, something like scales fell from Saul's eyes, and he could see again. He got up and was baptized, 15:8 God, who knows the heart, showed that he accepted them by giving the Holy Spirit to them, just as he did to us. 16:14 One of those listening was a woman named Lydia, a dealer in purple cloth from the city of Thyatira, who was a worshiper of God. The Lord opened her heart to respond to Paul's message. 28:26 "'Go to this people and say, "You will be ever hearing but never understanding; you will be ever seeing but never perceiving." 27 For this people's heart has become calloused; they hardly hear with their ears, and they have closed their eyes. Otherwise they might see with their eyes, hear with their ears, understand with their hearts and turn, and I would heal them.' ROM 1:21 For although they knew God, they neither glorified him as God nor gave thanks to him, but their thinking became futile and their foolish hearts were darkened. 2:5 But because of your stubbornness and your unrepentant heart, you are storing up wrath against yourself for the day of God's wrath, when his righteous judgment will be revealed. 14 (Indeed, when Gentiles, who do not have the law, do by nature things required by the law, they are a law for themselves, even though they do not have the law, 15 since they show that the requirements of the law are written on their hearts, their consciences also bearing witness, and their thoughts now accusing, now even defending them.) 16 This will take place on the day when God will judge men's secrets through Jesus Christ, as my gospel declares. 29 No, a man is a Jew if he is one inwardly; and circumcision is circumcision of the heart, by the Spirit, not by the written code. Such a man's praise is not from men, but from God. 6:17 But thanks be to God that, though you used to be slaves to sin, you wholeheartedly obeyed the form of teaching to which you were entrusted. 8:7 the sinful mind is hostile to God. It does not submit to God's law, nor can it do so. 27 And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints in accordance with God's will. 10:10 For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved. 1CO 3:20 and again, "The Lord knows that the thoughts of the wise are futile." 2CO 4:6 For God, who said, "Let light shine out of darkness," made his light shine in our hearts to give us the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Christ. EPH 4:18 They are darkened in their understanding and separated from the life of God because of the ignorance that is in them due to the hardening of their hearts. 23 to be made new in the attitude of your minds; 32 Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you. 6:5 Slaves, obey your earthly masters with respect and fear, and with sincerity of heart, just as you would obey Christ. 6 Obey them not only to win their favor when their eye is on you, but like slaves of Christ, doing the will of God from your heart. COL 3:10 and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge in the image of its Creator. 22 Slaves, obey your earthly masters in everything; and do it, not only when their eye is on you and to win their favor, but with sincerity of heart and reverence for the Lord. 1TH 2:4 On the contrary, we speak as men approved by God to be entrusted with the gospel. We are not trying to please men but God, who tests our hearts. 3:13 May he strengthen your hearts so that you will be blameless and holy in the presence of our God and Father when our Lord Jesus comes with all his holy ones. 1TI 1:5 The goal of this command is love, which comes from a pure heart and a good conscience and a sincere faith. 2TI 2:22 Flee the evil desires of youth, and pursue righteousness, faith, love and peace, along with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart. HEB 3:8 do not harden your hearts as you did in the rebellion, during the time of testing in the desert, 10 That is why I was angry with that generation, and I said, 'Their hearts are always going astray, and they have not known my ways.' 4:12 For the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double- edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart. 10:22 let us draw near to God with a sincere heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled to cleanse us from a guilty conscience and having our bodies washed with pure water. 11:17 By faith Abraham, when God tested him, offered Isaac as a sacrifice. He who had received the promises was about to sacrifice his one and only son, JAM 1:6 But when he asks, he must believe and not doubt, because he who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind. 8 he is a double-minded man, unstable in all he does. 4:8 Come near to God and he will come near to you. Wash your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded. 1PE 1:22 Now that you have purified yourselves by obeying the truth so that you have sincere love for your brothers, love one another deeply, from the heart. 3:15 But in your hearts set apart Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect, 2PE 2:14 With eyes full of adultery, they never stop sinning; they seduce the unstable; they are experts in greed--an accursed brood! REV 2:2 I know your deeds, your hard work and your perseverance. I know that you cannot tolerate wicked men, that you have tested those who claim to be apostles but are not, and have found them false. 10 Do not be afraid of what you are about to suffer. I tell you, the devil will put some of you in prison to test you, and you will suffer persecution for ten days. Be faithful, even to the point of death, and I will give you the crown of life. 23 I will strike her children dead. Then all the churches will know that I am he who searches hearts and minds, and I will repay each of you according to your deeds.
