IMPENITENCE LEV 26:21 "'If you remain hostile toward me and refuse to listen to me, I will multiply your afflictions seven times over, as your sins deserve. DEU 29:19 When such a person hears the words of this oath, he invokes a blessing on himself and therefore thinks, "I will be safe, even though I persist in going my own way." This will bring disaster on the watered land as well as the dry. DEU 29:20 The LORD will never be willing to forgive him; his wrath and zeal will burn against that man. All the curses written in this book will fall upon him, and the LORD will blot out his name from under heaven. DEU 29:21 The LORD will single him out from all the tribes of Israel for disaster, according to all the curses of the covenant written in this Book of the Law. 1SA 15:23 For rebellion is like the sin of divination, and arrogance like the evil of idolatry. Because you have rejected the word of the LORD, he has rejected you as king." JOB 9:2 "Indeed, I know that this is true. But how can a mortal be righteous before God? JOB 9:4 His wisdom is profound, his power is vast. Who has resisted him and come out unscathed? JOB 24:13 "There are those who rebel against the light, who do not know its ways or stay in its paths. JOB 33:14 For God does speak--now one way, now another--though man may not perceive it. PSA 7:11 God is a righteous judge, a God who expresses his wrath every day. PSA 7:12 If he does not relent, he will sharpen his sword; he will bend and string his bow. PSA 10:3 He boasts of the cravings of his heart; he blesses the greedy and reviles the LORD. PSA 32:9 Do not be like the horse or the mule, which have no understanding but must be controlled by bit and bridle or they will not come to you. PSA 50:17 You hate my instruction and cast my words behind you. PSA 50:21 These things you have done and I kept silent; you thought I was altogether like you. But I will rebuke you and accuse you to your face. PSA 52:1 Why do you boast of evil, you mighty man? Why do you boast all day long, you who are a disgrace in the eyes of God? PSA 52:7 "Here now is the man who did not make God his stronghold but trusted in his great wealth and grew strong by destroying others!" PSA 58:3 Even from birth the wicked go astray; from the womb they are wayward and speak lies. PSA 58:4 Their venom is like the venom of a snake, like that of a cobra that has stopped its ears, PSA 58:5 that will not heed the tune of the charmer, however skillful the enchanter may be. PSA 68:21 Surely God will crush the heads of his enemies, the hairy crowns of those who go on in their sins. PSA 78:8 They would not be like their forefathers--a stubborn and rebellious generation, whose hearts were not loyal to God, whose spirits were not faithful to him. PSA 81:11 "But my people would not listen to me; Israel would not submit to me. PSA 81:12 So I gave them over to their stubborn hearts to follow their own devices. PSA 82:5 "They know nothing, they understand nothing. They walk about in darkness; all the foundations of the earth are shaken. PSA 95:8 do not harden your hearts as you did at Meribah, as you did that day at Massah in the desert, PSA 106:24 Then they despised the pleasant land; they did not believe his promise. PSA 106:25 They grumbled in their tents and did not obey the LORD. PSA 107:11 for they had rebelled against the words of God and despised the counsel of the Most High. PSA 107:12 So he subjected them to bitter labor; they stumbled, and there was no one to help. NEW INTERNATIONAL VERSION (C) 1973, 1978, 1984 INTERNATIONAL BIBLE SOCIETY PRO 1:24 But since you rejected me when I called and no one gave heed when I stretched out my hand, PRO 1:25 since you ignored all my advice and would not accept my rebuke, PRO 1:26 I in turn will laugh at your disaster; I will mock when calamity overtakes you-- PRO 1:27 when calamity overtakes you like a storm, when disaster sweeps over you like a whirlwind, when distress and trouble overwhelm you. PRO 1:28 "Then they will call to me but I will not answer; they will look for me but will not find me. PRO 1:29 Since they hated knowledge and did not choose to fear the LORD, PRO 1:30 since they would not accept my advice and spurned my rebuke, PRO 11:3 The integrity of the upright guides them, but the unfaithful are destroyed by their duplicity. PRO 15:10 Stern discipline awaits him who leaves the path; he who hates correction will die. PRO 19:16 He who obeys instructions guards his life, but he who is contemptuous of his ways will die. PRO 21:29 A wicked man puts up a bold front, but an upright man gives thought to his ways. PRO 26:11 As a dog returns to its vomit, so a fool repeats his folly. PRO 28:13 He who conceals his sins does not prosper, but whoever confesses and renounces them finds mercy. PRO 29:1 A man who remains stiff-necked after many rebukes will suddenly be destroyed--without remedy. ECC 8:11 When the sentence for a crime is not quickly carried out, the hearts of the people are filled with schemes to do wrong. ECC 8:13 Yet because the wicked do not fear God, it will not go well with them, and their days will not lengthen like a shadow. ISA 26:10 Though grace is shown to the wicked, they do not learn righteousness; even in a land of uprightness they go on doing evil and regard not the majesty of the LORD. ISA 28:12 to whom he said, "This is the resting place, let the weary rest"; and, "This is the place of repose"--but they would not listen. ISA 32:9 You women who are so complacent, rise up and listen to me; you daughters who feel secure, hear what I have to say! ISA 32:10 In little more than a year you who feel secure will tremble; the grape harvest will fail, and the harvest of fruit will not come. ISA 32:11 Tremble, you complacent women; shudder, you daughters who feel secure! Strip off your clothes, put sackcloth around your waists. ISA 42:22 But this is a people plundered and looted, all of them trapped in pits or hidden away in prisons. They have become plunder, with no one to rescue them; they have been made loot, with no one to say, "Send them back." ISA 42:23 Which of you will listen to this or pay close attention in time to come? ISA 42:24 Who handed Jacob over to become loot, and Israel to the plunderers? Was it not the LORD, against whom we have sinned? For they would not follow his ways; they did not obey his law. ISA 42:25 So he poured out on them his burning anger, the violence of war. It enveloped them in flames, yet they did not understand; it consumed them, but they did not take it to heart. ISA 46:12 Listen to me, you stubborn-hearted, you who are far from righteousness. ISA 48:4 For I knew how stubborn you were; the sinews of your neck were iron, your forehead was bronze. ISA 48:8 You have neither heard nor understood; from of old your ear has not been open. Well do I know how treacherous you are; you were called a rebel from birth. ISA 57:11 "Whom have you so dreaded and feared that you have been false to me, and have neither remembered me nor pondered this in your hearts? Is it not because I have long been silent that you do not fear me? ISA 65:12 I will destine you for the sword, and you will all bend down for the slaughter; for I called but you did not answer, I spoke but you did not listen. You did evil in my sight and chose what displeases me." NEW INTERNATIONAL VERSION (C) 1973, 1978, 1984 INTERNATIONAL BIBLE SOCIETY JER 3:10 In spite of all this, her unfaithful sister Judah did not return to me with all her heart, but only in pretense," declares the LORD. JER 5:21 Hear this, you foolish and senseless people, who have eyes but do not see, who have ears but do not hear: JER 5:22 Should you not fear me?" declares the LORD. "Should you not tremble in my presence? I made the sand a boundary for the sea, an everlasting barrier it cannot cross. The waves may roll, but they cannot prevail; they may roar, but they cannot cross it. JER 5:23 But these people have stubborn and rebellious hearts; they have turned aside and gone away. JER 5:24 They do not say to themselves, 'Let us fear the LORD our God, who gives autumn and spring rains in season, who assures us of the regular weeks of harvest.' JER 6:10 To whom can I speak and give warning? Who will listen to me? Their ears are closed so they cannot hear. The word of the LORD is offensive to them; they find no pleasure in it. JER 6:16 This is what the LORD says: "Stand at the crossroads and look; ask for the ancient paths, ask where the good way is, and walk in it, and you will find rest for your souls. But you said, 'We will not walk in it.' JER 6:17 I appointed watchmen over you and said, 'Listen to the sound of the trumpet!' But you said, 'We will not listen.' JER 6:19 Hear, O earth: I am bringing disaster on this people, the fruit of their schemes, because they have not listened to my words and have rejected my law. JER 7:13 While you were doing all these things, declares the LORD, I spoke to you again and again, but you did not listen; I called you, but you did not answer. JER 7:14 Therefore, what I did to Shiloh I will now do to the house that bears my Name, the temple you trust in, the place I gave to you and your fathers. JER 7:24 But they did not listen or pay attention; instead, they followed the stubborn inclinations of their evil hearts. They went backward and not forward. JER 7:28 Therefore say to them, 'This is the nation that has not obeyed the LORD its God or responded to correction. Truth has perished; it has vanished from their lips. JER 8:5 Why then have these people turned away? Why does Jerusalem always turn away? They cling to deceit; they refuse to return. JER 8:6 I have listened attentively, but they do not say what is right. No one repents of his wickedness, saying, "What have I done?" Each pursues his own course like a horse charging into battle. JER 8:7 Even the stork in the sky knows her appointed seasons, and the dove, the swift and the thrush observe the time of their migration. But my people do not know the requirements of the LORD. JER 8:20 "The harvest is past, the summer has ended, and we are not saved." JER 12:11 It will be made a wasteland, parched and desolate before me; the whole land will be laid waste because there is no one who cares. JER 13:17 But if you do not listen, I will weep in secret because of your pride; my eyes will weep bitterly, overflowing with tears, because the LORD'S flock will be taken captive. JER 13:27 your adulteries and lustful neighings, your shameless prostitution! I have seen your detestable acts on the hills and in the fields. Woe to you, O Jerusalem! How long will you be unclean?" JER 14:10 This is what the LORD says about this people: "They greatly love to wander; they do not restrain their feet. So the LORD does not accept them; he will now remember their wickedness and punish them for their sins." JER 15:6 You have rejected me," declares the LORD. "You keep on backsliding. So I will lay hands on you and destroy you; I can no longer show compassion. JER 15:7 I will winnow them with a winnowing fork at the city gates of the land. I will bring bereavement and destruction on my people, for they have not changed their ways. JER 16:12 But you have behaved more wickedly than your fathers. See how each of you is following the stubbornness of his evil heart instead of obeying me. JER 17:23 Yet they did not listen or pay attention; they were stiff-necked and would not listen or respond to discipline. JER 18:12 But they will reply, 'It's no use. We will continue with our own plans; each of us will follow the stubbornness of his evil heart.'" JER 22:21 I warned you when you felt secure, but you said, 'I will not listen!' This has been your way from your youth; you have not obeyed me. JER 29:19 For they have not listened to my words," declares the LORD, "words that I sent to them again and again by my servants the prophets. And you exiles have not listened either," declares the LORD. JER 44:10 To this day they have not humbled themselves or shown reverence, nor have they followed my law and the decrees I set before you and your fathers. NEW INTERNATIONAL VERSION (C) 1973, 1978, 1984 INTERNATIONAL BIBLE SOCIETY JER 44:16 "We will not listen to the message you have spoken to us in the name of the LORD! JER 44:17 We will certainly do everything we said we would: We will burn incense to the Queen of Heaven and will pour out drink offerings to her just as we and our fathers, our kings and our officials did in the towns of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem. At that time we had plenty of food and were well off and suffered no harm. EZE 2:5 And whether they listen or fail to listen--for they are a rebellious house--they will know that a prophet has been among them. EZE 3:5 You are not being sent to a people of obscure speech and difficult language, but to the house of Israel-- EZE 3:6 not to many peoples of obscure speech and difficult language, whose words you cannot understand. Surely if I had sent you to them, they would have listened to you. EZE 3:7 But the house of Israel is not willing to listen to you because they are not willing to listen to me, for the whole house of Israel is hardened and obstinate. EZE 3:19 But if you do warn the wicked man and he does not turn from his wickedness or from his evil ways, he will die for his sin; but you will have saved yourself. EZE 3:26 I will make your tongue stick to the roof of your mouth so that you will be silent and unable to rebuke them, though they are a rebellious house. EZE 12:2 "Son of man, you are living among a rebellious people. They have eyes to see but do not see and ears to hear but do not hear, for they are a rebellious people. EZE 20:8 "'But they rebelled against me and would not listen to me; they did not get rid of the vile images they had set their eyes on, nor did they forsake the idols of Egypt. So I said I would pour out my wrath on them and spend my anger against them in Egypt. EZE 20:13 "'Yet the people of Israel rebelled against me in the desert. They did not follow my decrees but rejected my laws--although the man who obeys them will live by them--and they utterly desecrated my Sabbaths. So I said I would pour out my wrath on them and destroy them in the desert. EZE 20:21 "'But the children rebelled against me: They did not follow my decrees, they were not careful to keep my laws--although the man who obeys them will live by them--and they desecrated my Sabbaths. So I said I would pour out my wrath on them and spend my anger against them in the desert. EZE 33:4 then if anyone hears the trumpet but does not take warning and the sword comes and takes his life, his blood will be on his own head. DAN 9:13 Just as it is written in the Law of Moses, all this disaster has come upon us, yet we have not sought the favor of the LORD our God by turning from our sins and giving attention to your truth. HOS 4:17 Ephraim is joined to idols; leave him alone! HOS 5:4 "Their deeds do not permit them to return to their God. A spirit of prostitution is in their heart; they do not acknowledge the LORD. HOS 7:13 Woe to them, because they have strayed from me! Destruction to them, because they have rebelled against me! I long to redeem them but they speak lies against me. HOS 7:15 I trained them and strengthened them, but they plot evil against me. HOS 11:2 But the more I called Israel, the further they went from me. They sacrificed to the Baals and they burned incense to images. HOS 11:7 My people are determined to turn from me. Even if they call to the Most High, he will by no means exalt them. ZEC 7:11 "But they refused to pay attention; stubbornly they turned their backs and stopped up their ears. ZEC 7:12 They made their hearts as hard as flint and would not listen to the law or to the words that the LORD Almighty had sent by his Spirit through the earlier prophets. So the LORD Almighty was very angry. ZEC 7:13 "'When I called, they did not listen; so when they called, I would not listen,' says the LORD Almighty. MAL 2:2 If you do not listen, and if you do not set your heart to honor my name," says the LORD Almighty, "I will send a curse upon you, and I will curse your blessings. Yes, I have already cursed them, because you have not set your heart to honor me. MAL 2:17 You have wearied the LORD with your words. "How have we wearied him?" you ask. By saying, "All who do evil are good in the eyes of the LORD, and he is pleased with them" or "Where is the God of justice?" NEW INTERNATIONAL VERSION (C) 1973, 1978, 1984 INTERNATIONAL BIBLE SOCIETY MAT 11:16 "To what can I compare this generation? They are like children sitting in the marketplaces and calling out to others: MAT 11:17 "'We played the flute for you, and you did not dance; we sang a dirge, and you did not mourn.' MAT 11:18 For John came neither eating nor drinking, and they say, 'He has a demon.' MAT 11:19 The Son of Man came eating and drinking, and they say, 'Here is a glutton and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and "sinners." 'But wisdom is proved right by her actions." MAT 11:20 Then Jesus began to denounce the cities in which most of his miracles had been performed, because they did not repent. MAT 11:21 "Woe to you, Korazin! Woe to you, Bethsaida! If the miracles that were performed in you had been performed in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago in sackcloth and ashes. MAT 13:15 For this people's heart has become calloused; they hardly hear with their ears, and they have closed their eyes. Otherwise they might see with their eyes, hear with their ears, understand with their hearts and turn, and I would heal them.' MAT 23:37 "O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, you who kill the prophets and stone those sent to you, how often I have longed to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, but you were not willing. MAT 24:38 For in the days before the flood, people were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, up to the day Noah entered the ark; MAT 24:39 and they knew nothing about what would happen until the flood came and took them all away. That is how it will be at the coming of the Son of Man. MAT 24:48 But suppose that servant is wicked and says to himself, 'My master is staying away a long time,' MAT 24:49 and he then begins to beat his fellow servants and to eat and drink with drunkards. MAT 24:50 The master of that servant will come on a day when he does not expect him and at an hour he is not aware of. MAT 24:51 He will cut him to pieces and assign him a place with the hypocrites, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth. MAT 27:4 "I have sinned," he said, "for I have betrayed innocent blood." "What is that to us?" they replied. "That's your responsibility." MAR 3:5 He looked around at them in anger and, deeply distressed at their stubborn hearts, said to the man, "Stretch out your hand." He stretched it out, and his hand was completely restored. LUK 13:1 Now there were some present at that time who told Jesus about the Galileans whose blood Pilate had mixed with their sacrifices. LUK 13:2 Jesus answered, "Do you think that these Galileans were worse sinners than all the other Galileans because they suffered this way? LUK 13:3 I tell you, no! But unless you repent, you too will all perish. LUK 16:31 "He said to him, 'If they do not listen to Moses and the Prophets, they will not be convinced even if someone rises from the dead.'" ACT 7:51 "You stiff-necked people, with uncircumcised hearts and ears! You are just like your fathers: You always resist the Holy Spirit! ROM 2:4 Or do you show contempt for the riches of his kindness, tolerance and patience, not realizing that God's kindness leads you toward repentance? ROM 2:5 But because of your stubbornness and your unrepentant heart, you are storing up wrath against yourself for the day of God's wrath, when his righteous judgment will be revealed. 2CO 12:21 I am afraid that when I come again my God will humble me before you, and I will be grieved over many who have sinned earlier and have not repented of the impurity, sexual sin and debauchery in which they have indulged. HEB 3:8 do not harden your hearts as you did in the rebellion, during the time of testing in the desert, HEB 12:17 Afterward, as you know, when he wanted to inherit this blessing, he was rejected. He could bring about no change of mind, though he sought the blessing with tears. REV 2:5 Remember the height from which you have fallen! Repent and do the things you did at first. If you do not repent, I will come to you and remove your lampstand from its place. REV 2:16 Repent therefore! Otherwise, I will soon come to you and will fight against them with the sword of my mouth. REV 2:21 I have given her time to repent of her immorality, but she is unwilling. NEW INTERNATIONAL VERSION (C) 1973, 1978, 1984 INTERNATIONAL BIBLE SOCIETY REV 2:22 So I will cast her on a bed of suffering, and I will make those who commit adultery with her suffer intensely, unless they repent of her ways. REV 3:3 Remember, therefore, what you have received and heard; obey it, and repent. But if you do not wake up, I will come like a thief, and you will not know at what time I will come to you. REV 9:20 The rest of mankind that were not killed by these plagues still did not repent of the work of their hands; they did not stop worshiping demons, and idols of gold, silver, bronze, stone and wood--idols that cannot see or hear or walk. REV 9:21 Nor did they repent of their murders, their magic arts, their sexual immorality or their thefts. REV 16:9 They were seared by the intense heat and they cursed the name of God, who had control over these plagues, but they refused to repent and glorify him. REV 16:21 From the sky huge hailstones of about a hundred pounds each fell upon men. And they cursed God on account of the plague of hail, because the plague was so terrible.
