LIGHT Taken from the HOLY BIBLE: NEW INTERNATIONAL VERSION (C) 1978 by the New York Bible Society, used by permission of Zondervan Bible Publishers. GEN 1:3 And God said, "Let there be light," and there was light. 4 God saw that the light was good, and he separated the light from the darkness. 5 God called the light "day," and the darkness he called "night." And there was evening, and there was morning--the first day. 1KI 11:36 I will give one tribe to his son so that David my servant may always have a lamp before me in Jerusalem, the city where I chose to put my Name. PSA 27:1 The LORD is my light and my salvation-- whom shall I fear? The LORD is the stronghold of my life--of whom shall I be afraid? 74:16 The day is yours, and yours also the night; you established the sun and moon. 119:105 Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light for my path. 130 The unfolding of your words gives light; it gives understanding to the simple. PRO 6:23 For these commands are a lamp, this teaching is a light, and the corrections of discipline are the way to life, ECC 2:13 I saw that wisdom is better than folly, just as light is better than darkness. ISA 8:20 To the law and to the testimony! If they do not speak according to this word, they have no light of dawn. 45:7 I form the light and create darkness, I bring prosperity and create disaster; I, the LORD, do all these things. 49:6 he says: "It is too small a thing for you to be my servant to restore the tribes of Jacob and bring back those of Israel I have kept. I will also make you a light for the Gentiles, that you may bring my salvation to the ends of the earth." 58:8 Then your light will break forth like the dawn, and your healing will quickly appear; then your righteousness will go before you, and the glory of the LORD will be your rear guard. 60:19 The sun will no more be your light by day, nor will the brightness of the moon shine on you, for the LORD will be your everlasting light, and your God will be your glory. 20 Your sun will never set again, and your moon will wane no more; the LORD will be your everlasting light, and your days of sorrow will end. MAT 4:16 the people living in darkness have seen a great light; on those living in the land of the shadow of death a light has dawned." 5:14 "You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden. 16 In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven. 17:2 There he was transfigured before them. His face shone like the sun, and his clothes became as white as the light. LUK 2:32 a light for revelation to the Gentiles and for glory to your people Israel." 11:34 Your eye is the lamp of your body. When your eyes are good, your whole body also is full of light. But when they are bad, your body also is full of darkness. 16:8 "The master commended the dishonest manager because he had acted shrewdly. For the people of this world are more shrewd in dealing with their own kind than are the people of the light. JOH 1:4 In him was life, and that life was the light of men. 5 The light shines in the darkness, but the darkness has not understood it. 7 He came as a witness to testify concerning that light, so that through him all men might believe. 8 He himself was not the light; he came only as a witness to the light. 9 The true light that gives light to every man was coming into the world. 3:19 This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but men loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil. 20 Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the light for fear that his deeds will be exposed. 21 But whoever lives by the truth comes into the light, so that it may be seen plainly that what he has done has been done through God." 5:35 John was a lamp that burned and gave light, and you chose for a time to enjoy his light. 8:12 When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, "I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life." 9:5 While I am in the world, I am the light of the world." 12:35 Then Jesus told them, "You are going to have the light just a little while longer. Walk while you have the light, before darkness overtakes you. The man who walks in the dark does not know where he is going. 36 Put your trust in the light while you have it, so that you may become sons of light." When he had finished speaking, Jesus left and hid himself from them. ACT 9:3 As he neared Damascus on his journey, suddenly a light from heaven flashed around him. 26:18 to open their eyes and turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan to God, so that they may receive forgiveness of sins and a place among those who are sanctified by faith in me.' 2CO 4:6 For God, who said, "Let light shine out of darkness," made his light shine in our hearts to give us the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Christ. EPH 5:8 For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Live as children of light 14 for it is light that makes everything visible. This is why it is said: "Wake up, O sleeper, rise from the dead, and Christ will shine on you." PHI 2:15 so that you may become blameless and pure, children of God without fault in a crooked and depraved generation, in which you shine like stars in the universe 1TH 5:5 You are all sons of the light and sons of the day. We do not belong to the night or to the darkness. 1TI 6:16 who alone is immortal and who lives in unapproachable light, whom no one has seen or can see. To him be honor and might forever. Amen.
