MEEKNESS

GEN 13:8  So Abram said to Lot, "Let's not have any quarreling between you 
and me, or between your herdsmen and mine, for we are brothers.

26:20  But the herdsmen of Gerar quarreled with Isaac's herdsmen and said, 
"The water is ours!" So he named the well Esek, because they disputed with 
him.

21  Then they dug another well, but they quarreled over that one also; so 
he named it Sitnah.

22  He moved on from there and dug another well, and no one quarreled over 
it. He named it Rehoboth, saying, "Now the LORD has given us room and we 
will flourish in the land."

EXO 2:13  The next day he went out and saw two Hebrews fighting. He asked 
the one in the wrong, "Why are you hitting your fellow Hebrew?"

14:13  Moses answered the people, "Do not be afraid. Stand firm and you 
will see the deliverance the LORD will bring you today. The Egyptians you 
see today you will never see again.

14  The LORD will fight for you; you need only to be still."

15:24  So the people grumbled against Moses, saying, "What are we to 
drink?"

16:7  and in the morning you will see the glory of the LORD, because he has 
heard your grumbling against him. Who are we, that you should grumble 
against us?"

8  Moses also said, "You will know that it was the LORD when he gives you 
meat to eat in the evening and all the bread you want in the morning, 
because he has heard your grumbling against him. Who are we? You are not 
grumbling against us, but against the LORD."

17:2  So they quarreled with Moses and said, "Give us water to drink." 
Moses replied, "Why do you quarrel with me? Why do you put the LORD to the 
test?"

NUM 12:3  (Now Moses was a very humble man, more humble than anyone else on 
the face of the earth.)

16:4  When Moses heard this, he fell facedown.

5  Then he said to Korah and all his followers: "In the morning the LORD 
will show who belongs to him and who is holy, and he will have that person 
come near him. The man he chooses he will cause to come near him.

6  You, Korah, and all your followers are to do this: Take censers

7  and tomorrow put fire and incense in them before the LORD. The man the 
LORD chooses will be the one who is holy. You Levites have gone too far!"

8  Moses also said to Korah, "Now listen, you Levites!

9  Isn't it enough for you that the God of Israel has separated you from 
the rest of the Israelite community and brought you near himself to do the 
work at the LORD'S tabernacle and to stand before the community and 
minister to them?

10  He has brought you and all your fellow Levites near himself, but now 
you are trying to get the priesthood too.

11  It is against the LORD that you and all your followers have banded 
together. Who is Aaron that you should grumble against him?"

JDG 8:2  But he answered them, "What have I accomplished compared to you? 
Aren't the gleanings of Ephraim's grapes better than the full grape harvest 
of Abiezer?

3  God gave Oreb and Zeeb, the Midianite leaders, into your hands. What was 
I able to do compared to you?" At this, their resentment against him 
subsided.

1SA 1:13  Hannah was praying in her heart, and her lips were moving but her 
voice was not heard. Eli thought she was drunk

14  and said to her, "How long will you keep on getting drunk? Get rid of 
your wine."

15  "Not so, my lord," Hannah replied, "I am a woman who is deeply 
troubled. I have not been drinking wine or beer; I was pouring out my soul 
to the LORD.

16  Do not take your servant for a wicked woman; I have been praying here 
out of my great anguish and grief."

10:27  But some troublemakers said, "How can this fellow save us?" They 
despised him and brought him no gifts. But Saul kept silent.

17:29  "Now what have I done?" said David. "Can't I even speak?"

2SA 16:9  Then Abishai son of Zeruiah said to the king, "Why should this 
dead dog curse my lord the king? Let me go over and cut off his head."

10  But the king said, "What do you and I have in common, you sons of 
Zeruiah? If he is cursing because the LORD said to him, 'Curse David,' who 
can ask, 'Why do you do this?'"

11  David then said to Abishai and all his officials, "My son, who is of my 
own flesh, is trying to take my life. How much more, then, this Benjamite! 
Leave him alone; let him curse, for the LORD has told him to.

12  It may be that the LORD will see my distress and repay me with good for 
the cursing I am receiving today."

13  So David and his men continued along the road while Shimei was going 
along the hillside opposite him, cursing as he went and throwing stones at 
him and showering him with dirt.

14  The king and all the people with him arrived at their destination 
exhausted. And there he refreshed himself.

PSA 22:26  The poor will eat and be satisfied; they who seek the LORD will 
praise him--may your hearts live forever!

25:9  He guides the humble in what is right and teaches them his way.

37:11  But the meek will inherit the land and enjoy great peace.

38:13  I am like a deaf man, who cannot hear, like a mute, who cannot open 
his mouth;

14  I have become like a man who does not hear, whose mouth can offer no 
reply.

76:8  From heaven you pronounced judgment, and the land feared and was 
quiet--

9  when you, O God, rose up to judge, to save all the afflicted of the 
land. Selah

120:5  Woe to me that I dwell in Meshech, that I live among the tents of 
Kedar!

6  Too long have I lived among those who hate peace.

7  I am a man of peace; but when I speak, they are for war.

147:6  The LORD sustains the humble but casts the wicked to the ground.

149:4  For the LORD takes delight in his people; he crowns the humble with 
salvation.

PRO 14:29  A patient man has great understanding, but a quick-tempered man 
displays folly.

15:1  A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger.

18  A hot-tempered man stirs up dissension, but a patient man calms a 
quarrel.

16:32  Better a patient man than a warrior, a man who controls his temper 
than one who takes a city.

17:1  Better a dry crust with peace and quiet than a house full of 
feasting, with strife.

19:11  A man's wisdom gives him patience; it is to his glory to overlook an 
offense.

20:3  It is to a man's honor to avoid strife, but every fool is quick to 
quarrel.

25:15  Through patience a ruler can be persuaded, and a gentle tongue can 
break a bone.

29:8  Mockers stir up a city, but wise men turn away anger.

ECC 7:8  The end of a matter is better than its beginning, and patience is 
better than pride.

10:4  If a ruler's anger rises against you, do not leave your post; 
calmness can lay great errors to rest.

ISA 11:4  but with righteousness he will judge the needy, with justice he 
will give decisions for the poor of the earth. He will strike the earth 
with the rod of his mouth; with the breath of his lips he will slay the 
wicked.

29:19  Once more the humble will rejoice in the LORD; the needy will 
rejoice in the Holy One of Israel.

42:1  "Here is my servant, whom I uphold, my chosen one in whom I delight; 
I will put my Spirit on him and he will bring justice to the nations.

2  He will not shout or cry out, or raise his voice in the streets.

3  A bruised reed he will not break, and a smoldering wick he will not 
snuff out. In faithfulness he will bring forth justice;

4  he will not falter or be discouraged till he establishes justice on 
earth. In his law the islands will put their hope."

53:7  He was oppressed and afflicted, yet he did not open his mouth; he was 
led like a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is 
silent, so he did not open his mouth.

LAM 3:28  Let him sit alone in silence, for the LORD has laid it on him.

29  Let him bury his face in the dust--there may yet be hope.

30  Let him offer his cheek to one who would strike him, and let him be 
filled with disgrace.

AMO 3:3  Do two walk together unless they have agreed to do so?

ZEP 2:3  Seek the LORD, all you humble of the land, you who do what he 
commands. Seek righteousness, seek humility; perhaps you will be sheltered 
on the day of the LORD'S anger.

MAT 5:5  Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth.

9  Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called sons of God.

38  "You have heard that it was said, 'Eye for eye, and tooth for tooth.'

39  But I tell you, Do not resist an evil person. If someone strikes you on 
the right cheek, turn to him the other also.

40  And if someone wants to sue you and take your tunic, let him have your 
cloak as well.

41  If someone forces you to go one mile, go with him two miles.

42  Give to the one who asks you, and do not turn away from the one who 
wants to borrow from you.

11:29  Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble 
in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.

26:47  While he was still speaking, Judas, one of the Twelve, arrived. With 
him was a large crowd armed with swords and clubs, sent from the chief 
priests and the elders of the people.

48  Now the betrayer had arranged a signal with them: "The one I kiss is 
the man; arrest him."

49  Going at once to Jesus, Judas said, "Greetings, Rabbi!" and kissed him.

50  Jesus replied, "Friend, do what you came for." Then the men stepped 
forward, seized Jesus and arrested him.

51  With that, one of Jesus' companions reached for his sword, drew it out 
and struck the servant of the high priest, cutting off his ear.

52  "Put your sword back in its place," Jesus said to him, "for all who 
draw the sword will die by the sword.

53  Do you think I cannot call on my Father, and he will at once put at my 
disposal more than twelve legions of angels?

54  But how then would the Scriptures be fulfilled that say it must happen 
in this way?"

27:13  Then Pilate asked him, "Don't you hear the testimony they are 
bringing against you?"

14  But Jesus made no reply, not even to a single charge--to the great 
amazement of the governor.

MAR 9:50  "Salt is good, but if it loses its saltiness, how can you make it 
salty again? Have salt in yourselves, and be at peace with each other."

ACT 21:20  When they heard this, they praised God. Then they said to Paul: 
"You see, brother, how many thousands of Jews have believed, and all of 
them are zealous for the law.

21  They have been informed that you teach all the Jews who live among the 
Gentiles to turn away from Moses, telling them not to circumcise their 
children or live according to our customs.

22  What shall we do? They will certainly hear that you have come,

23  so do what we tell you. There are four men with us who have made a vow.

24  Take these men, join in their purification rites and pay their 
expenses, so that they can have their heads shaved. Then everybody will 
know there is no truth in these reports about you, but that you yourself 
are living in obedience to the law.

25  As for the Gentile believers, we have written to them our decision that 
they should abstain from food sacrificed to idols, from blood, from the 
meat of strangled animals and from sexual immorality."

26  The next day Paul took the men and purified himself along with them. 
Then he went to the temple to give notice of the date when the days of 
purification would end and the offering would be made for each of them.

ROM 12:14  Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse.

18  If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with 
everyone.

14:19  Let us therefore make every effort to do what leads to peace and to 
mutual edification.

1CO 1:7  Therefore you do not lack any spiritual gift as you eagerly wait 
for our Lord Jesus Christ to be revealed.

6:7  The very fact that you have lawsuits among you means you have been 
completely defeated already. Why not rather be wronged? Why not rather be 
cheated?

7:15  But if the unbeliever leaves, let him do so. A believing man or woman 
is not bound in such circumstances; God has called us to live in peace.

10:32  Do not cause anyone to stumble, whether Jews, Greeks or the church 
of God--

13:4  Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, 
it is not proud.

5  It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it 
keeps no record of wrongs.

2CO 10:1  By the meekness and gentleness of Christ, I appeal to you--I, 
Paul, who am "timid" when face to face with you, but "bold" when away!

13:11  Finally, brothers, good-by. Aim for perfection, listen to my appeal, 
be of one mind, live in peace. And the God of love and peace will be with 
you.

GAL 5:22  But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, 
kindness, goodness, faithfulness,

23  gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.

26  Let us not become conceited, provoking and envying each other.

6:1  Brothers, if someone is caught in a sin, you who are spiritual should 
restore him gently. But watch yourself, or you also may be tempted.

EPH 4:1  As a prisoner for the Lord, then, I urge you to live a life worthy 
of the calling you have received.

2  Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in 
love.

PHI 2:14  Do everything without complaining or arguing,

15  so that you may become blameless and pure, children of God without 
fault in a crooked and depraved generation, in which you shine like stars 
in the universe

COL 3:12  Therefore, as God's chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe 
yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience.

13  Bear with each other and forgive whatever grievances you may have 
against one another. Forgive as the Lord forgave you.

1TH 2:7  but we were gentle among you, like a mother caring for her little 
children.

5:14  And we urge you, brothers, warn those who are idle, encourage the 
timid, help the weak, be patient with everyone.

15  Make sure that nobody pays back wrong for wrong, but always try to be 
kind to each other and to everyone else.

2TH 1:4  Therefore, among God's churches we boast about your perseverance 
and faith in all the persecutions and trials you are enduring.

3:5  May the Lord direct your hearts into God's love and Christ's 
perseverance.

1TI 3:2  Now the overseer must be above reproach, the husband of but one 
wife, temperate, self-controlled, respectable, hospitable, able to teach,

3  not given to drunkenness, not violent but gentle, not quarrelsome, not a 
lover of money.

6:11  But you, man of God, flee from all this, and pursue righteousness, 
godliness, faith, love, endurance and gentleness.

12  Fight the good fight of the faith. Take hold of the eternal life to 
which you were called when you made your good confession in the presence of 
many witnesses.

2TI 2:24  And the Lord's servant must not quarrel; instead, he must be kind 
to everyone, able to teach, not resentful.

25  Those who oppose him he must gently instruct, in the hope that God will 
grant them repentance leading them to a knowledge of the truth,

4:16  At my first defense, no one came to my support, but everyone deserted 
me. May it not be held against them.

TIT 2:2  Teach the older men to be temperate, worthy of respect, self-
controlled, and sound in faith, in love and in endurance.

9  Teach slaves to be subject to their masters in everything, to try to 
please them, not to talk back to them,

3:2  to slander no one, to be peaceable and considerate, and to show true 
humility toward all men.

HEB 10:36  You need to persevere so that when you have done the will of 
God, you will receive what he has promised.

12:14  Make every effort to live in peace with all men and to be holy; 
without holiness no one will see the Lord.

JAM 1:4  Perseverance must finish its work so that you may be mature and 
complete, not lacking anything.

19  My dear brothers, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to 
listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry,

21  Therefore, get rid of all moral filth and the evil that is so prevalent 
and humbly accept the word planted in you, which can save you.

3:13  Who is wise and understanding among you? Let him show it by his good 
life, by deeds done in the humility that comes from wisdom.

17  But the wisdom that comes from heaven is first of all pure; then peace-
loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial 
and sincere.

18  Peacemakers who sow in peace raise a harvest of righteousness.

5:11  As you know, we consider blessed those who have persevered. You have 
heard of Job's perseverance and have seen what the Lord finally brought 
about. The Lord is full of compassion and mercy.

1PE 2:18  Slaves, submit yourselves to your masters with all respect, not 
only to those who are good and considerate, but also to those who are 
harsh.

19  For it is commendable if a man bears up under the pain of unjust 
suffering because he is conscious of God.

20  But how is it to your credit if you receive a beating for doing wrong 
and endure it? But if you suffer for doing good and you endure it, this is 
commendable before God.

21  To this you were called, because Christ suffered for you, leaving you 
an example, that you should follow in his steps.

22  "He committed no sin, and no deceit was found in his mouth."

23  When they hurled their insults at him, he did not retaliate; when he 
suffered, he made no threats. Instead, he entrusted himself to him who 
judges justly.

3:4  Instead, it should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of 
a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God's sight.

11  He must turn from evil and do good; he must seek peace and pursue it.

15  But in your hearts set apart Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give 
an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you 
have. But do this with gentleness and respect,

2PE 1:5  For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith 
goodness; and to goodness, knowledge;

6  and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and 
to perseverance, godliness;

7  and to godliness, brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness, love.

JUD 1:9  But even the archangel Michael, when he was disputing with the 
devil about the body of Moses, did not dare to bring a slanderous 
accusation against him, but said, "The Lord rebuke you!"
