Questioner

The church where I currently attend does not have the office of deacon, nor does it have any plans to establish such an office.  I asked some of the leadership about this and they seemed really passionate about not having the office of deacon.  They said that we all are deacons, servants of God, and we all fulfill that office.

Answer

That's odd, and certainly not biblical, for the Bible defines the office of "deacon" and the requirements that must be met to be one. By saying everyone is a deacon completely ignores what God has written about the specific qualifications for deacons (1 Timothy 3:8-13).  I would be a bit concerned about your leadership for they have a very alarming attitude about what is written in the Word of God--keep an careful eye on everything they teach, always comparing it to the Word of God.
