I have been here in this church [Grace Community Church] for quite some time,
and I remember back when we used to call the Sunday that Jesus rose from the
dead "Resurrection Sunday," and I would like to know why we went back to
using the name of a pagan goddess? |
| Ecumenical Movement [01] |
Where is the current ecumenical trend leading the church? |
| Ecumenical Movement [02] | A year and a half ago, I heard there was a conference in Arrowhead Springs Charles Mallack, the ex-Secretary of the United Nations had mentioned that after evaluating the world scene, that he thought the only hope for Christianity in light of the onslaught of Islam and Communism would be to line up under the Pope [join hands with the Pope]. And at the same conference, that Bill Bright had mentioned that Campus Crusade was now working with the Catholic Church in Eastern Europe because the Protestant Church was kind of dead. And someone had mentioned that the glue that was going to be holding together the ecumenical movement would be Baptism of Holy Spirit and speaking in tongues. I just wonder what you thought as far as our discernment goes, what will be the signs of the last days, the ecumenical movement and the World Council of Churches and so forth. What would be the things that hold that movement together? |
| Elders [01] |
Can women serve as elders in the church? |
| Elders [02] |
In the standards for a deacon or an elder, in Timothy and Titus, are those things that are given as standards there, things that have to be true of a man’s whole life, or just the present? |
| Elders [03] | As a member of Grace Church, if I have an opinion or a view that I've really prayed about, and I think it’s worthy to be considered, and I want to express that to a Pastor, an elder, and I want to express it in a way that he just doesn’t put it under the heading of complaining. Is there guidelines that I need to take? And, also, are there guidelines that the Pastor and elder have after I’ve shared it with them about what they do with it? |
| Election [01] |
What does the Bible teach about election? |
| Election [02] |
Why didn't God choose everybody to be saved? |
| Election [03] |
I wanted your opinion on a specific doctrine that you hear both teachings. You hear the free-will doctrine verses the election doctrine as far as salvation is concerned. And, I wanted your thoughts on that. |
| Election [04] |
The Bible speaks of vessels of mercy and vessels of destruction, which God specifically made for His purpose (Romans 9:21-23). Does that mean people like Judas were made by God for destruction? |
| Election [05] | In the passage 2 Peter 3, “God is not willing that any should perish, but all should come to repentance.” The problem that I have is that Ephesians 1:4 talks about the fact that we are chosen before the foundation of the world; Matthew 7:12-14 also talks about the fact that many will enter that place and a few ones will be with Jesus. The question is that was brought to me was, “What kind of a God is a God that chooses people before the foundation of the world, and at the same time wishes that no should perish and only brings a few with Him?” It is confusing. |
| Election [06] | I just moved here from Florida, and before I moved, a lot of people said that if I came to this church, that they believe in election, and I don't understand it completely. I would like to get it cleared up because, so far, of what I do understand, it seems right. |
| Election [07] | There are some who teach that God loves only His elect and hates the non-elect. Please comment. |
| Election [08] | I have a question about the Lordship controversy. In particular, volition. I’ve attended a lot of your services, and I’ve heard you mention volition a few times, and also in your Study Bible. My question is, how can volition be a part of the salvation equation if God is completely sovereign? |
| Election [09] | The doctrine of election. You know, people say, how do you explain this, that Jesus said to the disciples, “You’ve not chosen me. I’ve chosen you.” But wasn’t there a sense in which they did choose Him? What does all that mean? |
| Election [10] | If God chooses some people and not others, then, how does that not eliminate human responsibility? Also, Why does God pass over some and not elect them? |
|
Election [11] 1/14/06 |
I keep trying to figure out, how does God live with Himself in the area of eternal damnation, eternal punishment, and eternal torture? |
| End Time Events [01] |
I just have a brief three-part question. It’s
concerning Revelation. The first part is, almost every biblical scholar at this
point and time believes that the economic community, which is beginning next
week, is the second Roman Empire. And, the antichrist is supposed to arise out
of that. Is there any hints to where he’s going to come from? And also, will
the rapture happen before these events take place or will we see the antichrist
come to power? |
| End Time Events [02] |
What is the abomination of desolation in the holy place and how will it affect us, or will it? |
| End Time Events [03] |
Many nations are mentioned in the prophecies of the end times. Is there any indication of what will happen to America? |
| End Time Events [04] |
My question is in regard to the latter half of the tribulation period, when men would be required to have the mark of the beast in order to buy or sell. My question is: once a person takes the mark, is there any possibility of him coming to Christ? |
| End Time Events [05] |
There’s a group of people today on the radio that are contending that Daniel 7’s description and Ezekiel and various others all tie together with today’s world powers, the Russian Bear and various others. And I’ve been studying back through chapter 7 of Daniel, and I don’t see what they’re alluding to. I can see they’re taking something out of context, because the last part of chapter 7 explains the vision and it doesn’t fit with what they’re saying. And I’m wondering why their taking this view at this time. |
| End Time Events [06] | I’d like to know what constitutes the Church in view of Revelation? |
| End Time Events [07] | I’d like to know the meaning of Matthew 24:32-36, the parable. "Now learn a parable of the fig tree; When his branch is yet tender, and putteth forth leaves, ye know that summer is nigh: So likewise ye, when ye shall see all these things, know that it is near, even at the doors. Verily I say unto you, This generation shall not pass, till all these things be fulfilled. Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away. But of that day and hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only." [Matthew 24:32-36] |
| End Time Events [08] | Sometimes the debate about end times gets pretty heated. What do you think about this controversy? |
| End Time Events [09] | Once before you said that Russia’s greatest enemy was China, and from reading The Late Great Planet Earth many times, and following the study we did in Daniel on Sunday nights which again was terrific. I understand that Russia and China will be aligned against Israel? |
| Eternal Security [01] |
There seems to be a big problem in the church today,
concerning the doctrine of eternal security. Most Christians, Charismatics, and
even Evangelicals, believe you can lose your salvation. Now, one of the
arguments they use is Revelation 3:5, could you please comment on that? |
| Eternal Security [02] |
In chapter five, which I was teaching a couple of weeks
ago, we came to Galatians 5:2 and 5:4, which talk about the consequences of
accepting circumcision or coming under the Jewish law, or doing anything
legalistic. Paul writes in verse two that “Christ is of no benefit to you that
were severed from Christ,” verse 4, “you are fallen from grace.” I got
into quite a discussion with a fellow in the class about whether this meant you
could lose your salvation, which was the position he took. I just wanted to ask
how you would have dealt with that situation? What would you suggest to me? |
| Eternal Security [03] |
I have a question from Matthew 8:12. It says, “the sons of the kingdom
should be cast into outer darkness, where there’s weeping and gnashing of
teeth.” I came from an organization where they teach that there are born-again
Christians who, because they don’t live a holy, godly, Christian life, can
forfeit the kingdom and wind up in this place of outer darkness. Do you believe
in this? Or do you believe that all Christians will get into the kingdom, no
matter how they live? |
| Eternal Security [04] | Is it possible for redeemed people to lose their salvation? |
| Eternal Security [05] | I understand about salvation, that we do have salvation, we don't lose it. But I've been asked on Matthew 24, verse 10, where it says that many will fall away in the last days. Is that referring to Christians? |
| Eternal Security [06] |
My question [is] on Revelation 3:16, where it talks about the Lord spewing you out of his mouth if your works are neither hot nor cold. I’m wondering how that relates to “once being saved, always being saved”? |
| Eternal Security [07] | I was taught before, when I used to go to a different church, that once you become a born again--once you have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, you can never lose your salvation. But it seems like, after listening to all your preaching, that being a Christian is not just saving by grace; you have to constantly work hard to be a Christian, to obey. So that means a Christian could still go to hell? |
| Eternal Security [08] | 1 Timothy 4:1, says, "Now the Spirit speaketh specifically, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of demons." Is this somebody who loses their salvation? |
| Eternal Security [09] | I have a question that my sister wants some answers to and I think you’ll do a better job. She’s a brand new Christian and we come from a Catholic background and she’s having a little bit of difficulty with the fact that you do not loose your salvation even if you do backslide. So can you elaborate on that? |
| Eternal Security [10] | You mentioned once that you knew this man who was a real good Christian and he was a leader and he was one of the men that was on the panel that ordained you, do you remember saying that? And you said that he asked you the toughest questions to make sure that you towed the line, and were fundamentalist, and were O.K., and then you said that that man turned from the faith doctrinally and theologically. Did that man loose his salvation? |
| Eternal Security [11] | Does Hebrews 6:4-6 teach that a true believer can lose his salvation? |
| Eternity | In Genesis 17:8, and it’s basically out of concern of defending the premillennial point of view. And basically, God is talking to Abraham, and He says, in Genesis 17:8, “Also, I give to you and your descendants after you the land in which you are a stranger, all the land of Canaan as an everlasting possession, and I will be their God.” And, I was just wondering if you take that in the literal sense of the land of Canaan, how it’s possible to be an everlasting possession when it says in 2 Peter 3 that the heavens and earth are going to be totally destroyed or annihilated. Without allegorizing this verse. |
| Ethics | I have a question about situation ethics. Someone believes that there are no absolutes. There are only shades of gray. And, they gave me the example that, if you have one person pursuing another, and the person that is doing the pursuing is doing it with the intent to harm the individual. Let us say that individual hides in your home, and then, the pursuer comes and knocks on your door and says, you know, "Is Joe Blow here?" And you lie, and you say, "No." Now, we know lying is a sin, but, then, how do you answer something like that? There are absolutes. There are, yes, this is right, this is wrong. No, it does not depend on the situation. |
| Evangelism [01] |
"When Mormons
and Jehovah Witnesses come knocking at our door, should we greet
them and have them come into our homes?
I know we are not supposed to be cordial to them." |
| Evangelism [02] |
You have always taught here that the purpose of the
Church was to "equip the saints," yet recently you stated that the
main purpose of the Church was to "reach the lost," and if that is
true, then why don't we have more emphasis on evangelism here at Grace Community
Church? |
| Evangelism [03] |
What should be our responsibility relative to evangelism? What is the priority of evangelism in the Christian life? How does it fit in with the priority of Fellowship, Bible study, and Prayer? It can be very confusing if a person tries to run around doing everything. They often are sort of intimidated into evangelizing, jumping into the world to preach the Gospel, and not meditating on the Word in preparation. |
| Evangelism [03] |
I would like to ask you what you think about “Friendship Evangelism,” and, what I mean by that is, forming close friendships with non-Christians. I know there is a verse that says, “that we should love all men, but especially those of the household of faith.” |
| Evangelism [04] | Are you familiar with an article in this Saturday’s Times in the calendar section entitled, “Spices of Life at the Erotic Film Awards"? Did you happen to see it? The beginning paragraphs, the writer is Lee Grant, I don’t know anything about him, but he was writing about Christians standing outside this awards ceremony, and some of them yelling “Repent perverts” another one calling himself Jeremiah Christian, he was yelling “Repent adulterer, fornicator,” etc. They quote a lady that is part of this festival as saying, “Those people outside shouldn’t judge me, I don’t judge them. I’m sensitive, they seem so tormented and condemning, a lot of bitterness when you throw stones at others...” My question is, are you supportive of that type of evangelism? Do you think, it’s effective or detrimental? |

Among Evangelicals who profess some version of the gospel, how do you determine when you roll up your sleeves and join with them and when you just say, “I can’t do that”? |

I tell people they can be saved if they believe in Jesus Christ. Faith plus nothing else—not works. My question to you is that I don’t explain to people justification by grace through faith—that takes some time—and I can go into when necessary, but I don’t. I just give them some basic stuff. My question to you is this: in regards to a person’s religious persuasion or denomination, can they be saved with just John 3:16, Romans 8:8-10, Ephesians 2:8-10? |
| Evil Spirits [01] |
"In 1 Samuel
18:10 it says, 'Now it came
about on the next day that an evil spirit from God came mightily upon
Saul.' The question is about the 'evil
spirit,' since there is no evil coming from God,
it only comes from Satan." |
| Evil Spirits [02] | I have a question about 1 Samuel 16:14, “Now the Spirit of the Lord had departed from Saul, and an evil spirit from the Lord tormented him.” And I’m just curious about that "evil spirit from the Lord." |
| Example |
"How important is a good example?" |
