| Parents |
What is your obligation to your parents if they’re not Christians, they’re in their 80s and they drink alcohol and expect you to serve it in the home and have no respect for your Christian faith? |
| Passover |
What is the significance of the unleavened bread at Passover? |

Pastors 1/15/06 |
If you had to speak to a member of a pulpit committee out in the future, for your sons, your grandsons, what kind of time commitment would you encourage them to set aside for a pastor-teacher to be able to devote his time to preaching, teaching, studying the Word of God? |
| Pentecostalism |
I read an article in a "big city" newspaper, on the Pentecostal movement and I am still puzzled. These people, true believers, and if they are true believers, what are they doing in this movement: "Heal me right away or maybe I'll walk away from Jesus Christ." Can you shed some light on that? |
| Persecution |
I am a Hebrew Christian,
and my dad doesn’t
want me to come to church or anything, and I promised him that I wouldn’t go
while I’m living at our house.
The problem is that I think that I have broken a promise, right? And isn’t that
something wrong? I mean when I go home tonight he’s going to ask me, “Did you
attend the services?” |
| Politics [01] | Recently, in the news, there’s been a lot of talk about how evangelicals have started a lot of political organizations, and they’re really marching out politically. And, I would just like to know if you would give us some comments. What do you know about it, and how you feel about it? |
| Politics [02] |
I have a question relating to the direction that the church, generally the Christian church in America, is taking. And, in particular, Grace Church. We are, as Christians, admonished to be salt in a corrupt world. I feel, though, that many times, Christians who are sincere believers are not always terribly well informed as to the state of the world. The newspapers, some newspapers are quite misleading. Television has its devotees among the Christian community, but television is slanted news, so we’re really given a piece-meal diet, and it’s very difficult for Christians to sort out fact from fiction. |
| Polygamy |
I know that a man is supposed to have only one wife, then what is the reasoning by Solomon having 600--but God still blessed the men that had more
than one wife--like Abraham? |
| Pope |
Yesterday, they were reporting about the Pope being in Mexico, not for religious purposes, but for political. Where does he tie in with Revelation 17? There’s the beast, there’s the antichrist, and the false prophet; would he tie in with one of those? |
| Popularity |
How can a Christian be popular with the world? |
| Prayer [01] |
"Isn't it true that only the 'Regenerated,'
that is, only the 'Born Again,' the 'Saved' people can communicate with God,
for the purpose of solving their problems?" |
| Prayer [02] |
I know you have
to pray in His will, as the Lord did, “Not my will, but Your will be done,”
but how do you blend, that sometimes when maybe you think it’s a burden He’s
putting on you to pray and yet you don’t see it come and you are still asking
in His will? |
| Prayer [03] |
What is your opinion of the new best-selling book The Prayer of Jabez? Should Christians be learning how to pray Jabez's prayer? |
| Prayer [04] |
Does God answer the prayers of unbelievers? |
| Prayer [05] | Is there a correct posture for prayer? |
| Prayer [06] | What does it mean to pray without ceasing? |
| Prayer [07] | On asking "in the will of God," do you kind of tack that one on like, "in Jesus' name?" Or, you know, like some people, every time they pray, they go, "Lord, if it's Your will," and kind of got the idea that they really don't think it is, but they're going to pray it anyways. Would you explain what you mean by "asking in the will of God?" |
| Prayer [08] | You [have] said that prayer moves God to act. Would you explain how I can move God to act? |
| Prayer [09] | Two things that I would like you to explain, that I hear people use in prayer very often: "Pleading the Blood of Christ" and "Praying to bind Satan"--they're common practices. Would you comment? |
| Prayer [10] | When you pray, how do you know...like you're praying earnestly for something over and over and over again...how do you know you're not going to get something like a Saul in your life? |
| Prayer [11] |
When we pray does Satan hear our prayers? Or can he listen to us? |
| Prayer [12] |
Would you comment on fleeces? |
| Prayer [13] |
I understand why God might not answer a prayer for a [new sports car]. But I don't understand if a family is praying for a safe trip and on their way back half are killed and it's stated, "it's God's will." I don't understand what the point of prayer would have been or even constant prayer because it was going to be God's will for the family to split in the first place. |
| Prayer [14] |
When you were talking about prayer, you made the comment that it was wrong for us to ask for more love or more peace because we already have this. And I assume that you were referring to us positionally--we have it all. But then there's the other side and don't you think that often when people pray for more love or more peace or any of these things that are ours positionally, that they're actually asking that it would be more of a part of their experience without denying the fact that it is their position? And in that it wouldn't be irrelevant to pray that way. |
| Prayer [15] |
I have a question concerning the gospel where it's talking about hypocrisy of praying aloud versus praying in the closet and praying the Lord's prayer. |
| Prayer [16] |
Does God answer unsaved people's prayers? |
| Prayer [17] |
On the same line as fleeces, if you're not praying in God's will, can Satan answer your prayer? I mean, like if you're outside of His will. Could he make something happen that where you'd think you were being answered? |
| Prayer [18] |
I never knew that Satan would be able to hear your prayers if you said them audibly. I was under the impression that he can only be in one place at a certain time. |
| Prayer [19] |
I just wanted to ask what suggestions you would have for teaching children to pray? |
| Prayer [20] |
I was raised up a Catholic and my husband...like when we say prayers before meals, he still says the Catholic prayer. And it's like...they're just words to the children and doesn't really mean a thing, but then he's the one that leads the prayers so should I just...? |
| Prayer [21] |
In praying for a brother that is in some sin and this brother continues to be in sin, should it come to a point where we should discontinue our prayers or what should be, I don't know, along that line? |
| Prayer [22] |
My question, if I may read two verses, has to do with repetitive prayer for salvation for loved ones. It’s in I John, chapter five, verses 14 and 15: “And this is the confidence that we have in Him, that if we ask anything according to his will, He heareth us. And if we know that He hears us, whatever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of Him.” |
| Prayer [23] |
How should we theologically classify passages like Psalm 139:19-22 in light of the New Testament teaching to love our enemies and those who persecute us, since many times God’s enemies are in fact or become our enemies? How do we answer someone who quotes passages such as these and claims that the Bible is guilty of the same hatefulness that is found in the Koran? |
| Prayer [24] |
How can I overcome the fear of praying out loud in front of other people? I find myself just saying words to the people. |
| Prayer [25] | Can God hear a Jew's prayers? Prayers of a Jew? Or, really, any unbeliever? |
| Prayer [26] | Where or how do you draw the line between leaving it to the Lord or taking care of the situation yourself? |
| Prayer [27] | I took a Bible course a couple years ago where the teacher said, "That because God is sovereign and He chooses certain people to come to Him in salvation, and too, because the Bible doesn’t say anything to the contrary, that its basically unbiblical to pray for the salvation of an nonbeliever. I’d like to hear what you have to say about that and straighten me out. |
| Prayer [28] | John, what is more important, reading the Word or praying? And after you answer that, could you give us an example of your prayer life? |
| Prayer [29] | I’m not going stand before you and say I have a full and complete understanding of the Trinity of God. I do know that dwelling within me is the Holy Spirit. But when I pray, and I know this must be an old question to you, but who do I pray to, I find myself praying to God, and than I say I’m slighting Jesus when I’m praying to Jesus, and I say I am slighting God, who do I pray to? |
| Prayer [30] | How can we, as the body of Christ, minister to grace and pray for you consistently? What would be the most primary prayer that you would request for us to pray and lift you up? |
| Preaching [01] |
Could you please define what a genuine expositor of the Word is? |
| Preaching [02] |
Thirty years ago you started teaching [here]. I’m just curious, have you
changed in any of your stances or interpretations--anything biblical, or maybe
the way you might have said something? Let’s face it, you probably have
offended some people, and you know, maybe a better word is “convicted” some
people. But, I’m just curious, are there any changes in your stances or
interpretations? |

| Preaching [08] |
I've heard it said that 50 percent of a sermon should be application. Could you comment? |
| Preaching [09] |
Do you find it easier now to develop a sermon from a passage? |
| Preaching [10] |
How do you differentiate between persuasion and manipulation? |
| Preaching [11] |
What abiding lessons would you teach men who are committed to expository preaching that will sustain them for a lifetime of ministry? |
| Preaching [12] |
Since notable expositors are avid readers, what are your reading preferences? |
| Preaching [13] |
What is the ultimate key to effective preaching? |
| Preaching [14] |
If we are to proclaim the "whole counsel of God," why do you preach predominately from the New Testament? |

Dr. MacArthur, I would respect your opinion greatly about this… Talk to me about the role of the Holy Spirit in preaching. |

My question is regarding Jesus’ parables. You know how He used lots of stories and personal illustrations—is there anything wrong with that? I’ve noticed that some other preachers today like David Jeremiah, Chuck Swindoll, they do the same thing; they have lots of stories and personal illustrations in their sermons. I know you don’t do that. Is there anything wrong with doing that? |

In Matthew 17 and 18, you quoted today that Jesus said, “I didn’t come to abolish the law, but to fulfill it and the prophecies.” Also, in Daniel 12:21, there’s a little caveat in the NASB that says—“Let the reader understand…” The fact that Matthew 28 says, “Go out and make disciples and baptize in the name of the Lord…,” and, back in Ezekiel, R. C. Sproul, earlier today, talked about getting up on the wall and warning people of danger that’s coming—my first question is, if we don’t warn people based on what we know in Scripture, is that considered a sin? |
| Predestination [01] |
"I have been studying John, chapter 17, and one thing that came out
was that our names are already written in the 'Book of Life.' My question is, "Is that like
Predestination?" |
| Predestination [02] |
I wasn't raised this way and I was just kind of curious about Predestination.
I have heard back and forth that God had a plan. I was just curious about my family members that aren't saved, I thought, "Does God not choose
them?" |
| Predestination [03] |
I just wanted to ask what your view was on "Double Predestination" and why? |
| Predestination [04] |
Do you believe in predestination? |
| Promises |
Do the promises in Revelation 2 and 3 belong to all Christians? |
| Prophecies [01] |
On July 31, 1980 Israel annexed Jerusalem as its capital, which made a lot of the Moslem nations upset. And I was wondering if that was one of the prophecies, and are there any more prophecies that need to be fulfilled before the rapture or Great Tribulation takes place? |
| Prophecies [02] |
I recently received your series of 12 tapes on the Second Coming, and the question that I have is, you state in the tapes that there are 333 various prophecies on the coming of the Messiah. One hundred and nine verses predict the first coming and 224 prophecies refer to the Second Coming. My question is that when you refer to each of these particular verses in the Bible you indicate that the reason that all the predictions weren’t fulfilled by Christ coming was that He’s coming a second time. I can understand why it would have been difficult for the Jew not to accept Christ because He didn’t fulfill all the prophecies, could you clarify that for me? |

Prophecies [03] 1/15/06 |
In today’s times, we know Israel’s a new state as of 1948. We know they’re rebuilding the temple. I worked for the military in Japan and I know, from military websites, there’s actually a city of Babylon standing that our advisors are walking through right now with United Nations representatives and people of the Iraqi government, discussing how to open this place up as a trade center. So, I go back to the book of Daniel, talking about Babylon will be destroyed in the end times. My question is, if this is so important to preach and to be able to teach the truth biblically, why don’t more churches teach about the end times prophecies? |
| Protection |
"How far are
we supposed to go, as Christians, to protect ourselves, and our family, and our
homes from intruders and such?" |
| Protests |
"How do you feel about a march? Christians are marching. I saw Frank Schaeffer (sp.) leading, I believe, an Anti-Abortion march." |
| Psychology |
How does the Bible help us to be able to cope with the anxieties of life and psychological problems? |
| Punishment [01] |
Why was nothing ever said or done to Aaron for making the golden calf in Exodus 32? There was never any mention that he protested against it; why was he not punished? |
| Punishment [02] | In light of the fact that once you’re saved, Jesus never leaves you, and since the death of Christ, if a Christian willfully sins, then is it that God punishes the sin or in his falling away from the Lord does he leave himself open for Satan to attack. Because, that question, the argument was "does God punish" or "does Satan punish"? |
| Punishment [03] | My question is based on Matthew, chapter 11, verse 21. Jesus said, “Woe to you, Korazin!, Woe to you, Bethsaida! For if the miracles had occurred in Tyre and Sidon, which occurred in you, they would have repented long ago in sackcloth and ashes. Nevertheless, I say to you it shall be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon in the day of judgment than for you.” Now, how can it be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon when in the book of Revelation chapter 20, verse 15, it simply says, “And if anyone’s name was not found written in the Book of Life, he was thrown into the Lake of Fire.” It doesn’t seem it would make any difference. |
