Question
I have a friend who appears to be oppressed or possessed by a demon, and I have also discovered that her mother appears to have had the some problem in her life. Do you think that the iniquity of the parent it part of the reason she is being tormented?
Answer
As far as the iniquity of the parent affecting the child, I personally think that it is possible. We see in the New Testament young children possessed by demons, which could be a direct result of the parents involvement with the occult or themselves being possessed. It would be much like a mother with AIDS who has a child with the same condition, or a mother who is a drug addict and gives birth to a infant who is also addicted.
The good news is that God is sovereign over everything and can, by prayer, save your friend and make her a new creation, who is indwelt by the Holy Spirit, leaving no place or allowance for any demonic possession/oppression.
