Questioner

A long-time elder of a local church, about 1,000 members, when asked, how many members of the church had a passion for Jesus, a good knowledge of the Bible and sound doctrinal foundations, said maybe 30 or 40 of the membership. Someone else from that church said the number was high.  That's not percent but total.

Answer

That is a direct reflection of the Leadership of that church, in what they are failing to preach and live out.

The last 11 churches I have attended have been a mixture of subjectivism, polytheism, tri-theism, new-age spiritualism and whatever, under the banner of what they call "Christianity." Religion becomes pretty easy when one makes up his own savior and God.

Answer

This is true all over America, for I hear it from every corner--big and small cities, and even the rural areas.  It is hard to find a good church today, in fact, we drive 1 hr and 15 mins, one way, to attend a true biblically-based church.

My concern.  How can one witness to others and have no reliable church to recommend?  Any person who became interested enough in Christianity to buy a MacArthur Study Bible and devoured it and then adding to his knowledge by reading The Gospel According to Jesus could not help but become disillusioned when attending most churches in their area.

Answer

You are so right!  This really burdens my heart and that is why there is a Bible Bulletin Board, to help people survive and to encourage leaders of churches to bring their doctrine into alignment with the Word of God.

I have even added a link to our website asking visitors if they know of good Bible-based churches in their areas that they could recommend--churches that would basically agree with the ministry philosophy of John MacArthur and our doctrinal statement, which is a copy of the doctrinal statement of Grace Community Church.  I have posted these churches, after I have checked them out the best I could.  The link is: http://www.biblebb.com/churches.htm
